At the heart of ARTBOX 2024 lies the SGAG Stage, a vibrant platform where fun (at other people’s expense) takes the spotlight. SGAG is turning up the excitement with a series of challenges that promise laughter and perhaps a bit of pain.
The Hopscotch of Pain, a unique twist on the classic game, challenges participants to hop across a beam covered in acupuncture mats — all on one leg. The reward? A chance to walk away with S$888.
For those with a competitive edge, the National Piak Cockroach Championship is for you. With a rubber slipper in hand, participants aim to knock off cockroach boards placed 4 metres away. It’s an exciting and exhilarating extermination event where hitting the target secures a spot in the thrilling finals.
The creators and familiar faces of SGAG are not exempt from the action; the Creators Death Match pits them against each other on the Hopscotch of Pain. Will they triumph, or will they succumb to the hilariously challenging game? It’s a showdown that promises laughter and surprises. Moving to the ARTBOX Stage, the festival unfolds into a musical extravaganza. Local music bands like Reverie, The Passerby, and The Mad Trio share the stage with Thailand’s pop band, The Parkinson.

It also features Teo Heng’s KTV containers where you can showcase your singing skills and belt out your favourite tunes, while the adjacent Gamestop Arena offers a thrilling gaming experience with Nintendo Switch and VR Games. The Arcade Alley, presented by The Arcade People, takes over with classic and modern arcade games. For a quick and easy bite while we browsed the rows and rows of food stalls, we picked up the Japanese Beef Cubes from The Swag Social, a delicious and easy meal to share with a hungry media team! A mouthwatering blend of savoury, umami-rich flavours with a delightful charred exterior, peppered with their house seasoning which gives it a slight sweetness and smokiness, is definitely a popular and irresistible street food option!
We settled on a few mains, including the Braised Pork Rice from Taiwanese brand MONKI, Chicken Sliders from local Breadfirst Everyday and a showing of true convention innovation, the Mala Noodles Cup by MALA Cup SG.
A delectable and comforting flavour can be found in the Braised Pork Rice, where the dish features tender, fatty pork belly slow-cooked in a flavorful braising liquid, resulting in succulent, melt-in-your-mouth sauce. The irresistible Chicken Sliders feature a toasted bao bun that is soft and pillowy, which contrasts delightfully with the crispy, mouth-watering fried chicken. Velvety cheese sauce crowns the slider, elevating it to a whole new level of indulgence. Meanwhile, everyone’s favourite and familiar spicy noodles packs a punch with its rich and aromatic broth, all in the convenience of a cup with the Mala Noodles Cup — say goodbye to having to make a meal out of a meal!
You have to have a drink to wash that all down, so for those beer drinkers reading, why not chug and unplug with ARTBOX’s Official Lager Beer, Chang Beer, or for those that don’t take alcohol, Butterbeer, also from The Swag Social. Creamy and velvety, sweet and caramelised, need I say more?
