DANAMIC Google Voice Guide: DANAMIC Briefing

This page explains what personal data we collect when you read, contact or follow danamic., what we do with it, and the choices you have. The personal data collected on danamic.org is controlled by DANAMIC PTE. LTD., a company registered in Singapore (UEN 201815375Z), and we handle it in line with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act. Our Terms of Use are at the end of this page.

What we collect

You do not need an account to read danamic.org, and we do not run a membership or registration system. What we hold about you depends on how you use the site:

  • When you read the site. Our servers and Cloudflare, which sits in front of them, record the technical details of each request: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you open, the site that referred you and how long each page took to load. We use this to keep the site running, to defend it against attacks and abuse, and to understand which stories are read.
  • When you write to us. If you email us, we keep your name, email address and whatever you include in your message so that we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.
  • When you contribute an article. We ask for your real name, occupation and contact details, and publish the one-line introduction you give us with your piece. Your contact details are not published or passed on without your consent (see Contribute).
  • When you follow or reply to us elsewhere. If you follow us on Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or LinkedIn, or interact with our fediverse account (@danamic@danamic.org), we see the public profile and public messages you send us. Those platforms handle your data under their own privacy policies.
  • Comments. Comments are currently closed on danamic.org. If we open them, the name, email address and text you submit with a comment will be stored with it.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser so that it can recognise you between pages and visits. danamic.org uses them for security, for remembering simple preferences, and for measuring how the site is used. The measurement tools currently on the site are:

  • Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, loaded through a Cloudflare tag gateway on our own domain. They tell us which pages are read, how readers arrive and roughly where they are, using a random identifier stored in a cookie rather than your name.
  • Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used (clicks, scrolling, and anonymised replays of visits) so that we can find broken layouts and confusing pages.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics, a page-speed and traffic measurement that does not use cookies.
  • A Meta pixel and a TikTok pixel, served through Cloudflare Zaraz rather than by scripts from Meta or TikTok. They let us measure how our content performs when we share it on those platforms and reach readers there. Meta and TikTok may link a visit to your account on their platform if you are signed in.
  • Cloudflare security cookies, which tell abusive automated traffic apart from real readers. You may occasionally be shown a short security check before a page loads.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google’s tools run in consent-denied mode by default (no analytics or advertising cookies are set) and the Meta and TikTok pixels do not load at all. Elsewhere, the measurement above runs as described.

You can delete or block cookies through your browser’s settings; the site will still work, although some preferences will not be remembered. Google, Microsoft, Meta and TikTok each offer their own controls for the data their tools collect, including Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on and the advertising settings inside your Meta and TikTok accounts.

Third parties

We do not sell your personal data. The services below process data on our behalf or receive it when you use a feature that depends on them:

  • Cloudflare delivers the site, protects it from attacks, resizes our images and provides the analytics and tag services described above. Every request to danamic.org passes through Cloudflare’s network.
  • DigitalOcean hosts our servers and the storage that serves our images (danamic-media.danamic.org).
  • Google Workspace runs our email, so messages you send to a danamic.org address are stored there.
  • Embedded content. Some articles embed videos and posts from YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Spotify. These load only on the pages that contain them, and when they do, the platform concerned can set cookies and collect data as if you had visited it directly.
  • Syndication. Our articles also appear on Google News, Apple News, Flipboard and our Telegram channel, and are available to fediverse apps. When you read us there, that platform’s privacy policy applies.
  • Advertising. If we run advertising with third-party advertising companies, they may set cookies to show you advertising that relates to your interests. Sponsored content is labelled as such (see our Editorial Standards).

We may also disclose personal data where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the site, our readers or our staff.

Your choices and rights

  • You do not have to give us any personal data. Where you have, you can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct, delete or stop using it. Email hello@danamic.org with the subject line “Privacy request” and tell us what you would like us to do. We will need enough information to find the data you mean.
  • We do not send marketing emails. If we ever email you about our products or services without your having asked for it, that email will tell you how to opt out.
  • You can control cookies in your browser and through the service-specific controls listed under Cookies and analytics.

How long we keep data

  • Server access logs on our own servers are kept for 14 days and then deleted. Security tools may keep a record of blocked or abusive requests for longer.
  • Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in each service (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Cloudflare, Meta and TikTok).
  • Emails and other correspondence are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and for our records.
  • A contributor’s published name and introduction stay with the article for as long as it is published; contact details are kept so that we can reach the contributor about their piece.

Security

danamic.org is served only over HTTPS, sits behind Cloudflare’s security services, and its editing tools are restricted to staff accounts with single sign-on. We have implemented technology and policies to protect your data from unauthorised access and improper use, and we update these measures as new technology becomes available. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may change this policy from time to time. Substantial changes to what we collect or how we use it will be posted on this page with a new date at the bottom, and we will do our best to draw attention to significant changes. Please check back for the current version.

If you disagree with any part of these terms and conditions, please stop using the site.

DANAMIC is not responsible for any damages or loss related to your reliance on any outdated version of these Terms of Use, including, but not limited to, any outdated version of our Privacy Policy. Certain jurisdictions prohibit the limitation of liability for certain types of damages or prohibit waivers against future fraud, and accordingly, such limitations or waivers may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, DANAMIC’s liability is limited to the greatest extent allowable under applicable law.
