Things to do April 2024: Figuring a Scene @ National Gallery Singapore

National Gallery Singapore continues to explore the world of experiential art with its latest exhibition, Figuring a Scene. Curated by Deputy Director of Curatorial & Research Dr. Patrick Flores, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Southeast Asian artworks and materials. It invites you to step into a world where art transcends traditional boundaries and takes on new dimensions of meaning.

Witness how elements from nature, such as fire and air, are depicted in various art forms and form intricate connections between art, nature, history, and society. This exhibition challenges conventional storytelling methods, embracing emotions, imagination, and sensory experiences as integral elements of art appreciation, and discovers the interplay between seemingly opposing forces, like fire symbolising destruction yet intertwined with Singapore’s national development.

Join Dr. Flores and others on a thought-provoking journey that invites you to question, explore, and connect with art in ways you’ve never imagined. Figuring a Scene is as much about observing the art as it is about engaging with it on a deeper level. Reflect on the process of art creation, the meaning behind materials, and the collective experience of viewing and interpreting exhibitions.
