Lawry’s The Prime Rib: A Great Host That Serves Great Roast

Any self-respecting meat-lover, particularly those who adore beef, should have at least heard of Lawry’s. With an 80-year history, someone would’ve told you about an anniversary dinner or a birthday celebration there. After all, they are known for their attention to detail, great hospitality and little surprises, all of which leaves an indelible impression as you celebrate your life’s milestones.

Above all, Lawry’s is known for serving up a great prime rib meal. But you should know this by now.

Lawry's Main Dining Interior

What you probably don’t know is that Lawry’s is celebrating its 19th anniversary in Singapore. This July, treat yourself to a four-course menu (priced at $118++ per person or $188++ per two-person) that executive chef Sherwin Sim crafted just for the month.

The meal opens with The Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad, which consists of romaine, iceberg lettuce, baby spinach, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons dressed with Lawry’s house-made vintage dressing and eaten with a chilled fork. The highlight of this dish isn’t really the dish itself, but the theatrics involved in the preparation. It’s a delight to watch a cheery server tip-toeing, raising one arm to the side elegantly and pouring the dressing with the other from a height while the salad bowl twirls on a bed of ice.

A little surprise awaits before the appetiser, but there shall not be any spoilers.

Next comes the Appetiser Sampler. It consists of a Hokkaido scallop with tobiko and fresh mango salsa, chicken gyoza with wasabi mayonnaise and a piece of foie gras with thyme gelee. Even though the items in the sampler are mostly Asian-inspired and doesn’t seem to go with Lawry’s identity, it’s refreshing to see them venturing into new flavours.

For the main dish, you get a choice of Lawry’s Signature Roasted Prime Rib of Beef, Baked Herb Crusted Salmon with Mediterranean Vegetables, or Truffle Rosemary Lamb Rack. Unless you don’t eat beef, the choice is clear – the restaurant is called Lawry’s The Prime Rib, and they have been in business for 80 years. But wait, why are you even considering Lawry’s if you don’t eat beef?

To round off the meal, choose between Lemon Meringue Cake with Yuzu Ice-cream and Sea Salt Caramel Pecan Mousse Cake with Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean Ice-cream.

It may just be four courses, but the portions are huge. By the end of the meal, you should be really stuffed. But if you’re a big eater, you can add on a side of Lobster Thermidor stuffed with Carrots and Mushrooms for $10++, just for the month of July.

It’s amazing that Lawry’s is able to stay consistent all these years, serving up prime ribs that are just as good as the first time you had them, with a side of excellent service. It’s the prime rib you’ll need to try at least once in a lifetime.

And then a few more times.

Thank you, Lawry’s The Prime Rib, for hosting the tasting!
