With the year winding down, it is time to look forward to 2024! Next year will see a fresh slate of events to discover in Singapore, and you don’t need to wait long to experience one of them as Chingay 2024 arrives to start the year on a high!
Chingay 2024 is set to delight audiences over two nights on 23 and 24 February 2024, with the parade once again being held at the iconic F1 Pit Building. The theme for the upcoming edition is “Blossom”, symbolising the growth, transformation and flourishing of individuals and communities alike. As such, expect to see flowers play a major role in the parade, with various flowers showcasing different aspects of Singapore’s rich tapestry of culture and traditions. Perhaps we might see Singapore’s National Flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, make an appearance!
“Chingay has always been a reflection of our multicultural society and the spirit of our people as we celebrate different talents and abilities. Chingay 2024 will use the metaphor of blooming flowers to reflect our people’s spirit of togetherness and growth as one community and a showcase of the flourishing vibrant talent of our diverse communities and beyond,” says Jimmy Toh, Chief Executive Director of PA.
“This year, PA will once again collaborate with like-minded people and partners in the community and invite them to express their talents by co-creating performances, community floats and art installations. We’re very excited to present everyone’s heartfelt contributions to Chingay – the People’s Parade.”
Besides the blooming display of flora at the Chingay Parade, spectators will also get to see 3,500 performers from all walks of life play a part in the spectacle, alongside 17 Community Floats created by residents, grassroots organisations and community partners under the PAssionArts programme. And of course, the Chingay large floats are also back, with five main floats appearing for Chingay 2024.
But that’s not all! For the first time, the Chingay Parade will showcase Singapore’s longest interactive floor projection ever for a street parade. Measuring a huge 230 metres, seeing it in action is sure to conjure up some awe.
To truly immerse yourself in the spirit of Chingay, come visit PAssionArts Street @ Chingay at the F1 Pit Building from 23 to 25 February 2024! A suite of community art installations from the PAssionArts Festival 2023, lovingly co-created by residents and community artists, are available for viewing here. Interactive experiences — such as hands-on art activities — will also be available to ensure a fun time for all. The best thing about it is that admission is free too!
In and around the same area, you’ll also get to see flower-themed art installations made using recycled materials. Created as part of the Chingay National Education (NE) Programme by students from seven different schools, each art piece will showcase a unique interpretation of the “Blossom” theme — so go on and check out what the students have created!
Chingay 2024 looks to be another exciting display of multicultural talent and artistry, so be sure to grab tickets for yourself and your family now!
