Farrago: The Rojak of Local Indie Rock
Think shiny guitar riffs and the infectious upbeat rhythms of Circa Waves, mixed with grittier Arctic Monkeys-esque undertones. The end product? Farrago. Here’s a little introduction to this indie rock band from our very own Singapore. But first, a little explanation about their name. Farrago means “a confused mixture” (or in local terms, rojak), just like the band themselves – its four members come from four completely different countries. Meet vocalist/guitarist Dave Hawkes, bassist Miwa Furukara, drummer Tristan North, and lead guitarist Jonathan Suresh. Hailing from England, Japan, Australia and Singapore respectively, they met back in 2012. Two years later,…

“Breaking Through” Is Yet Another Cheesy Dance Movie
With all the commercial success the “Step Up” series has received throughout the years, we were hoping that “Breaking Through” could deliver something just as spectacular, or better. We left the theatre with our expectations completely broken. Written and directed by John Swetnam, the film is centred on Casey Wright (Sophia Aguiar), an aspiring dancer who is struggling to balance her mundane day job and passion for dance with her crew. One day, Casey is miraculously discovered by Quinn (Jay Ellis), who hopes to give her the thousands of views and fans that she dreams of. But Casey has to risk not…

QUIZ: Can You Survive A Hipster Café?
It’s 2:30PM. The Singapore sun is its usual unforgiving self, keeping everyone indoors, when your best friend drops you a text on Telegram: “Pre10shus Café at Keong Saik @ 3:30pm y/n?“ You pause the Blogilates video you’ve been (binge-)watching as you consider this offer. You know your last Instagram update was a shocking “20h” ago, and really, your relationship with your bestie is based on a mutual understanding to always “Like” each other’s Instagrams (for added support). “I’ve run out of #throwback selfies so ya ok. See u.“ Remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books that were all the rage when we were kids?…

Muse Is Back… With Supermassive Black Balls
If you were there that night, you would agree that there was an air of expectancy for a rocking good time at Muse‘s concert. Performing at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Saturday, the English rock trio played hit after hit from their impressive 20-year run as Grammy-award-winning rockers. Known for their energetic live performances, Muse certainly did not disappoint. Starting off their setlist with “Psycho“, the new song definitely psyched everyone up! “Reapers” reminds us why lead singer and guitarist Matthew Bellamy is just… beyond awesome. Playing his riffs so effortlessly, we were left speechless at his insane guitar skills. When the intro…

NSFs Offer Advice To Pre-Enlistees
“Aiya, two years only… very fast one lah!” ::: So you’re enlisting. That’s… fun. Being worried about leaving home, being screamed at by commanders, or being made fun of for your personal sleep routine are all valid fears. But because The DANAMIC Team is committed to walking the walk (24km route march, anyone?), we’ve asked some Singaporean sons who are currently serving their National Service for advice that they would offer to pre-enlistees. We’ve divided these tips into 4 categories: Attitudes, Admin Time Hacks, What To Bring, and Others. Some of these might help you, but situations might change and your company might have…

Canon Singapore Launches The Canon eShop
We’ve come a long way in terms of technological advancements, but shopping from home is definitely one of the most ingenious marks of progress in the 21st century. As a spoken statement, “I am shopping in my pyjamas” used to be synonymous with laziness and a shocking disregard for Orchard Road’s dress code, but it is now a hallmark of the Internet generation, represented by millions of tech-literate people who complete half of their day’s to-dos while still in the general vicinity of their bedroom. This is the future, and Canon fully respects that. Canon Singapore has launched the Canon eShop –…

The Best #sghaze Jokes On Twitter
All across Singapore, locals here have adopted a simple 3-step process to tackle the persistent haze this week: #1 Stopping whatever they’re doing, #2 Whipping out their phone, #3 Tweeting a complaint about it. Bonus points for effort: some take it one step further by attaching a picture of their VSCO Fade +12 surroundings. Truly the mark of a first-world nation. While Singaporeans may be predictable, our national pastime (no, not eating… the other one) of complaining is expressed through a variety of ways – some more entertaining than others. We present to you: the best jokes on Twitter about…
