Panic! At the Disco: Death of a Bachelor, Life of a Performance

The last time American rock band Panic! at the Disco came to Singapore was eons ago, dating all the way back to 2008. Back then, they were a still quartet – consisting of Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith and Jon Walker. Remember the good old days when they helped to popularise “guyliners”, emo haircuts and face paint? Panic!’s iconic song, I write sins not tragedies, says it all as well. 8 years on from the last performance here, we can safely say that the band has evolved tremendously – in terms of member count, musical style and overall fashion aesthetics. Today,…

SCANDAL: Something New, Something Familiar

It might have only been a year since the All-Female Japanese Rock band, SCANDAL, was in Singapore but on their return they’ve brought plenty of new fuel for fans with their new album, YELLOW. Chasing a new direction in their music, SCANDAL delivers with the same vibe but a different tune. Performing at The Hard Rock Hotel’s The Coliseum (A venue we’re growing to enjoy with bigger and bigger names playing there), SCANDAL showed up on stage amidst fans yelling, jumping, pumping their fists and general merriment. Though there was an arduously long queue prior to seeing the girls, their…

Interview: Copeland Talk Their Legacy, Future Plans, and Their Dream Music Collabs

Photos by Jovi Ho for DANamic.ORG Emo music hit its heyday in the 2000s and at that time, Copeland enjoyed a modest amount of attention for their songs about love and relationships. Back then, everyone (well, all the cool people at least) was burning “Priceless” on mixtape CDs for that one special person. Comprising Aaron Marsh (vocals), Jonathan Bucklew (drums), and brothers Bryan and Stephen Laurenson (lead and rhythm guitars respectively), the band had recorded 5 albums and 3 EPs before their break-up in 2010. Four years later, the band have decided to reunite and have another crack at it. While their new album…

Interview With midst: An Ambient Gem Among Us

With just 3 singles made available online, midst have been raising a delicate storm with their exquisite offerings. Combining the chordal sensibilities of a baroque choral piece with the introspection of painfully self-aware indie artists, the 3-piece band are blessedly releasing their first body of work in an EP – arriving 23rd January 2016. Their debut single, “Captivate” ,certainly captivated audiences (sorry, we couldn’t resist) here and abroad. Released just last September, the track has garnered over 5,000 plays on YouTube – a laudable feat for a fresh-faced local act. Across what we’ve heard so far, midst’s atmospheric, “yoga retreat soundtrack” vibe…
