Life
A little bit of food, a little bit of literature, a little bit of everyday fashion, a little bit of shopping, a little bit of love; it all comes together to form a rather sizeable… lump. It’s difficult to fully define what this vertical covers, but it encompasses everything that makes life enjoyable – anything that shines a light on your day belongs right here in Life.

What Would A “Modern” Yu Sheng Look Like?
Yusheng, yee sang or yuu sahng (Chinese: 鱼生), or Prosperity Toss, also known as lo hei (Cantonese for 撈起 or 捞起) is a Teochew-style raw fish salad. Yes, Wikipedia knows more about my own culture than I do. Those who celebrate the hand-shaking, money-gifting, petty gambling festival that is the Chinese New Year would be all too familiar with this messy dish. But while atas restaurants keep trying to find more creative reasons/lucrative ways to sell shredded vegetables, we wondered about how younger generations might adapt this tradition in the future. Basically… What would a “modern” Singaporean Yu Sheng look like? and that’s…

Rose Quartz and Serenity: Getting Ready For 2016
After last year’s vitriol over Marsala, 2015’s Colour of the Year which Jezebel helpfully described as “the mould growing in your bathroom that no one will clean”, it seems Pantone has adopted a softer approach to their annual declaration of self-importance. For the first time since the yearly shebang started in Y2K, the international colour standards company (we like to call them The Rainbow Police) has just announced not one, but two Colours of the Year for 2016. READY YOUR BODIES FOR… AND… Rose Quartz and Serenity. So soft, so pastel, so very tumblr. But wait… Where have we seen those colours before..? Hmm……

RIP #InstagramTree: Our Tree-bute To The Punggol Landmark
The Housing and Development Board announced yesterday (December 9) that the popular “Instagram Tree” located at Punggol Waterway Park will be removed on December 16, referred to here as The Day The Tree Leaves. The barren tree is/was a well-known attraction online, with its uniquely desolate surroundings (sunset beyond its knoll, no other trees nearby) painting a rather bleak and intriguing picture. Perfect for the semi-pretentious public introspection that is Instagram. Sometimes we just have to let things go? A photo posted by ajyclaire (@ajyclaire) on Aug 21, 2015 at 9:12pm PDT In a short post on Facebook, HDB said that the…

Are You An Instagram Husband?
We all love Instagram (we even wrote about it at length) but are we loving Instagram a little too much? In a #hilarious video, American talk show The Mystery Hour sheds light (no flash, please) on life behind the iPhone. More specifically, the plight of the husbands behind the camera (and you thought those bloggers’ boyfriends have it all good). Some are totally into it (eye-twitching notwithstanding). But most are not. “Behind every cute girl on Instagram is a guy like me… and a brick wall.” “We used to eat our food, now we just take pictures of it.” In mock social enterprise/Kickstarter fashion,…

QUIZ: Can You Survive A Hipster Café?
It’s 2:30PM. The Singapore sun is its usual unforgiving self, keeping everyone indoors, when your best friend drops you a text on Telegram: “Pre10shus Café at Keong Saik @ 3:30pm y/n?“ You pause the Blogilates video you’ve been (binge-)watching as you consider this offer. You know your last Instagram update was a shocking “20h” ago, and really, your relationship with your bestie is based on a mutual understanding to always “Like” each other’s Instagrams (for added support). “I’ve run out of #throwback selfies so ya ok. See u.“ Remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books that were all the rage when we were kids?…

But because The DANAMIC Team is committed to walking the walk (24km route march, anyone?), we’ve asked some Singaporean sons who are currently serving their National Service for advice that they would offer to pre-enlistees. We’ve divided these tips into 4 categories: Attitudes, Admin Time Hacks, What To Bring, and Others. Some of these might help you, but situations might change and your company might have…
