#ExplainAFilmPlotBadly: All You Need This Blockbuster Season

With Hollywood raining sequel after sequel upon us (we’ll talk more about this soon), being a movie buff gets a little exhausting sometimes. Thanks to the power of Twitter and bored people with an Internet connection, #ExplainAFilmPlotBadly is here to help you differentiate between the abused oft-reprised roles and their instalments on the silver screen. We rounded up the best of the worst summaries but, of course, here’s a warning: spoiler alert! An iceberg is badly damaged in a hit-and-run. #ExplainAFilmPlotBadly — Stephen Boylan (@SteveBoylan) December 13, 2015 #ExplainAFilmPlotBadly Paranoid billionaire afraid of immigrant pic.twitter.com/mCKj8zfg6C — Maggie Serota (@maggieserota) December…

Rose Quartz and Serenity: Getting Ready For 2016

After last year’s vitriol over Marsala, 2015’s Colour of the Year which Jezebel helpfully described as “the mould growing in your bathroom that no one will clean”, it seems Pantone has adopted a softer approach to their annual declaration of self-importance. For the first time since the yearly shebang started in Y2K, the international colour standards company (we like to call them The Rainbow Police) has just announced not one, but two Colours of the Year for 2016. READY YOUR BODIES FOR… AND… Rose Quartz and Serenity. So soft, so pastel, so very tumblr. But wait… Where have we seen those colours before..? Hmm……

Are You An Instagram Husband?

We all love Instagram (we even wrote about it at length) but are we loving Instagram a little too much? In a #hilarious video, American talk show The Mystery Hour sheds light (no flash, please) on life behind the iPhone. More specifically, the plight of the husbands behind the camera (and you thought those bloggers’ boyfriends have it all good). Some are totally into it (eye-twitching notwithstanding). But most are not. “Behind every cute girl on Instagram is a guy like me… and a brick wall.” “We used to eat our food, now we just take pictures of it.” In mock social enterprise/Kickstarter fashion,…
“The Good Dinosaur” is Good, Not Great

“The Good Dinosaur” is Good, Not Great

Visually astounding, The Good Dinosaur lacks a certain oomph! factor – especially being released after Inside Out, this movie was awaited with high hopes. Pixar makes movies with seemingly one aim: turning us into an emotional mess, walking out of the cinema on borderline hysteria, torn between tears and laughter. However, this time, we felt a bit cheated. Though, I’ll call this Pixar’s most beautiful disappointment. It has lip quivering moments throughout but it feels like tricky, with sad scenes carelessly inserted into the flick without build up for characters or plot. The main character’s journey in this movie lacks…

Cleaning House with Clean Bandit

As part of their #BanditAsia tour, British four-piece band Clean Bandit took to the stage at The Coliseum at Hard Rock Hotel on 25 November 2015. Performing their unique mix of classic and electro-pop music, the Bandits brought upbeat stage presence and their compelling vocals to boot for their fans. The band belted out tunes from their debut studio album, “New Eyes” (which peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums chart). With familiar hits such as “Extraordinary“, “Real Love” and the massive pop earworm “Rather Be“, the audience (and our) hearts were captured as they bounced along. After a moderate delay, the…

The Essential ORD Playlist

Congrats, soldier! You’ve waited 2 years/22 months for this. Countless outfields, combat rations, and weekend guard duties later, you’ve finally and blessedly arrived at your ORD date. Gone are the days of 5AM reveilles (and seeing a hundred people butcher the spelling of that word). You’re moving on to your next posting – CIVILIAN. Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this! Here at DANamic.ORG, we’ve got a few writers who are at various stages of their NS journey (a very cringeworthy word). Small matter though, because the writer behind this article is completing his full-time NS very, very (very) soon. 🙂 But wherever you are on…
Legend is Not That “Legend”-ary

Legend is Not That “Legend”-ary

The promise of not one but 2 Tom Hardys in “Legend” is hard to ignore. Tom Hardy is on point playing Reggie and Ronnie Kray, a pair of gangster brothers. Set in the East End of London during the 1960’s, the story revolves around the short rise and fall of the Kray twins. The admittedly familiar recount of the ‘gangsters rising to fame’ with London’s most notorious gangsters is shown in film’s stereotypically romanticised view of organised crime in “Legend”. The characters seem present on screen only as caricature. Playing as Reggie, Hardy takes on a charming façade as a gang…

NSFs Offer Advice To Pre-Enlistees

“Aiya, two years only… very fast one lah!” ::: So you’re enlisting. That’s… fun. Being worried about leaving home, being screamed at by commanders, or being made fun of for your personal sleep routine are all valid fears. But because The DANAMIC Team is committed to walking the walk (24km route march, anyone?), we’ve asked some Singaporean sons who are currently serving their National Service for advice that they would offer to pre-enlistees. We’ve divided these tips into 4 categories: Attitudes, Admin Time Hacks, What To Bring, and Others. Some of these might help you, but situations might change and your company might have…
