Christmas on A Great Street 2026 switches on along Orchard Road on 17 November 2026, when President Tharman Shanmugaratnam officiates the light-up. From that evening, 3.1km of gold lights runs from Tanglin Road to Dhoby Ghaut until 3 January 2027, with the Great Christmas Village at Ngee Ann City and Shaw House and a Christmas Eve street party to plan around.
I was at the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) media conference for this year’s edition, and two announcements are worth planning a visit around. LEGO is building its first Santa’s Toy Factory in Singapore in front of Ngee Ann City, open from 13 November, and Merli, the Singapore Tourism Board’s mascot, turns up almost everywhere, including a 6.2-metre Merli on the Shaw House rooftop. Here’s how to walk the strip zone by zone, plus the dates and hours worth knowing.
Meet Merli, Not the Merlion
Here’s a clarification that’ll save you an argument in the group chat. Merli is the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) mascot. It’s a separate character that’s related to the Merlion but not the same one, so keep them apart in your captions.
Merli’s headline appearance is a glowing 6.2-metre Christmas Merli on Shaw House’s garden rooftop, one of the Orchard Road Business Association’s (ORBA) new attractions this year. At the media conference, it was confirmed that the public can go up to the roof where Merli stands for close-up photos. That’s the shot to aim for if you want something different from the usual street-level tree photo!
Merli is the star of the 100-metre-tall 3D Multimedia Projection Mapping show on the façade of Hilton Singapore Orchard too. The three-minute animations follow Merli on a mission to recover missing Christmas elements along Orchard Road in November, then move to a festive round-up of iconic Singaporean elements in December. Special countdown sequences play on 24 and 31 December.
Down at street level, Music in the Air plays festive instrumentals from 44 lamp posts from 10am to 6.59pm. From 7pm to 10pm daily, the music syncs with the projection show, so time your walk past the Hilton for after dark.
3.1km of Gold From 17 November
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam officiates the Christmas on A Great Street Community Chest Light-Up Ceremony on 17 November, co-organised by ORBA and Community Chest. From that evening, the lights run the full stretch from Tanglin Road to Dhoby Ghaut until 3 January 2027.

ORBA has named this year’s theme the Season of Golden Joy. The decorations are vine-inspired, with Christmas trees and mistletoe motifs in three shades of gold that ORBA says reflect Orchard Road’s resilience and renewal.
The Light-Up is in its 43rd year, and Hitachi has been the main sponsor for 36 of them. ORBA counts it among the longest-running festive traditions in Singapore, which is a lot of Decembers of people stopping mid-pavement for photos.

The ceremony doubles as a fundraiser for more than 300 programmes supported by Community Chest. Its Stories of Hope exhibition spotlights children and youths helped by those programmes, so the opening night carries more weight than a switch being flipped.
Walk It in Three Stretches
The lights cover 3.1km, which is a lot of road for one evening, so it helps to split it into three. Here’s the strip from west to east, starting at the Tanglin end and finishing at Dhoby Ghaut, with what ORBA has placed along each stretch.

Tanglin Road to Shaw House
Start where the gold lights begin at Tanglin Road and head east toward Shaw House. This is Merli’s stretch, with the rooftop Christmas Merli above the building and the Steps of Golden Joy photo installation outside it.
Shaw House is one half of the Great Christmas Village as well. Its plaza has a larger-than-life dessert-themed installation with Kiztopia characters, plus 13 carnival game booths, claw machines and six children’s rides. It has fewer booths than the Ngee Ann City site, which makes it a gentle warm-up before the bigger half down the road.

ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City
Around ION Orchard, it’s Marvel’s turn. The Marvel Christmas Trail opens in front of ION from 13 November 2026, and you can collect stamps along it, post a photo on social media or show an Avengers: Doomsday ticket stub for exclusive premiums. Two photo installations sit outside the mall as well: Gateway to Golden Joy and A Golden Christmas Moment.
In front of Wisma Atria, electricity retailer Geneco presents Forevermore from 7 to 20 December. The exhibition shares the reflections of incarcerated individuals on family as part of their rehabilitation journey, with kintsugi pottery made in partnership with Awful Grace and the Yellow Ribbon Project.
Then comes Ngee Ann City, the busiest stop on the map. It has the larger half of the Great Christmas Village, the Hitachi Santa House, the LEGO® Santa’s Toy Factory and the Meet Me Under the Mistletoe photo installation, all in one place. Budget the most time here.
Mandarin Gallery to Dhoby Ghaut
Outside Mandarin Gallery, The Golden Christmas Tree is the last of the five photo installations. The Google Pixel 11 Experience sets up its activation here from 20 November to 6 December, and the Hilton projection is the reason to look up from 7pm.
Keep walking east and the gold carries on past Somerset to Dhoby Ghaut. Malls along this end, including 313@somerset, Orchard Central, The Centrepoint and Plaza Singapura, are in the local Mastercard voucher programme (more on that below). It’s a handy place to finish your gift shopping on the way to the MRT.
Five Photo Spots, Named
ORBA has placed five photo installations along the road (listed on its event highlights page), and here they are in walking order:

- Steps of Golden Joy, outside Shaw House
- Gateway to Golden Joy, outside ION Orchard
- A Golden Christmas Moment, outside ION Orchard
- Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, outside Ngee Ann City
- The Golden Christmas Tree, outside Mandarin Gallery
If you only have time for two, pair Meet Me Under the Mistletoe with the rooftop Merli. The first gives you the obvious couple or best-friend shot, while the second gives you an angle most people will skip because it means going up a building.
The ION pair is the easiest win, since both sit outside the same mall and you’ll pass them anyway on the way to the Marvel trail. Two photos, zero detours.
Inside the Great Christmas Village
The Great Christmas Village spans Ngee Ann City and Shaw House, decked out in Kiztopia’s neon-pop colours and dessert-inspired sculptures. Kiztopia, the family edutainment brand that won Best Attraction Experience at the 2021 Singapore Tourism Awards, runs 50 carnival game booths, children’s rides and game stations across both sites. ORBA says that’s 20 more than in 2025.

Ngee Ann City has 20 carnival game booths, five children’s rides, five game stations and photo installations, including a River Duck Ride, the Mastercard Train Ride and a bouncy castle. Adults get arcade games and claw machines, so nobody has to stand around holding the bags. The Hitachi Santa House returns too, this time with nightly snowfall shows.
Anchoring the Village is a stained glass-styled 13-metre Avengers: Doomsday Christmas tree, part of an immersive installation that brings the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four to life with experiential booths, photo opportunities and character figures. The one everyone will want a selfie with is the life-size Doctor Doom. Marvel Studios’ film hits cinemas in December, so hang on to that ticket stub!
For food and drinks, CHAGEE debuts at the Village with a pop-up truck selling its teas and exclusive merchandise. The Grocer Bar by Fair Price Finest pours cocktails made with Brass Lion Gin alongside local snacks from Singapore’s Top Must Buy list, such as IRVINS, Song Fa and Toast box. ASA Brew has craft beer, Michelin Guide-listed Birds of Paradise brings its gelato with curated toppings, and vending machines cover hot and cold food.
Rides and games run on carnival credits.
LEGO’s Santa Workshop
LEGO® Santa’s Toy Factory, which ORBA says is LEGO’s first in Singapore, opens in front of Ngee Ann City from 13 November and runs to 22 December.
Children aged 4 to 12 get a personalised Factory Mission Badge and work through hands-on missions. They decorate LEGO festive treats at Gingerbread’s Bakery, sort bricks for gifts at Santa’s Sorting Station and fulfil orders at Yeti’s Order Station. Finish the missions and you walk away with a free LEGO Make & Take mini-build and a voucher.
The LEGO Santa mascot makes scheduled appearances, and Santa’s Holiday Gift Drop hands out special giveaways. At each session, one lucky participant takes home LEGO sets worth up to S$200. If you’ve got younger siblings or cousins to entertain in December, this is the easiest win on the whole road!
Christmas Eve on the Street
The Great Christmas Eve Street Party returns on 24 December 2026 along Orchard Road between the Paterson Road and Bideford Road junctions. Benjamin Kheng, DJ Tinc (Kate Yong), Maia Lee and Sambiesta headline, alongside festive mascots and food trucks. Benjamin Kheng takes the final slot and leads everyone into the midnight countdown to Christmas.
Sleigh the Street! by *SCAPE brings street dances, graffiti art, street theatre by local and overseas artists and hands-on creative activities. It’s the part of the night aimed squarely at a younger crowd, and a good place to park yourself between sets.
That stretch closes to traffic from 6pm on 24 December to 2am on 25 December. Plan your ride home before you go, because a car won’t be getting you out of the middle of it.
How Mastercard Pays You Back
Mastercard returns as the Official Card of Christmas on A Great Street, after 14 years of working with ORBA.
For locals, spend at least S$400 (up to five same-day receipts) with Mastercard at 11 participating malls from 13 November to 20 December to redeem a S$30 mall voucher. It’s capped at the first 100 cardholders each week, so go early in the week. ORBA says the same campaign lifted gross sales at participating malls by 26% last year.
A separate Mastercard and Global Blue offer has been running since 1 October, adding 15% more GST refund value on eligible transactions islandwide. That rises to up to 30% more in total at Paragon, Takashimaya Shopping Centre and Wisma Atria, capped at S$600 per transaction.
Tourists who top up carnival credits with Mastercard get Mastercard Train rides on top of the bonus credits: one ride for a S$50 top-up, two for S$100. Those rides are limited to the first 10,000.
The Orchard Road Tourist Pass
ORBA has launched the inaugural Orchard Road Tourist Pass (details on ORBA’s website), and there are two ways to qualify. You can book and pay with Mastercard for a minimum three-night stay directly at one of five participating hotels, which gets you up to 20% off the Best Available Room Rate. Or you can spend S$1,000 with Mastercard across participating Orchard Road establishments, combining up to five receipts.
The five hotels are COMO Metropolitan Singapore, Goodwood Park Hotel, Mercure Singapore on Stevens, Novotel Singapore on Stevens and Shangri-La Singapore. The Pass includes S$60 in shopping, dining or services vouchers, S$30 in Kiztopia Christmas Carnival credits and a Mastercard x Orchard Road foldable tote bag.
“The new Orchard Road Tourist Pass will make it easier for tourists to shop, stay and celebrate here,” ORBA chairman Mark Shaw said in the release. If friends or family are flying in for Christmas and staying three nights on Stevens Road anyway, forward them this section before they book.
A Christmas That Gives Back
Beyond the Community Chest fundraising, ORBA is donating lights to EQUAL, a charity that uses animal-assisted learning to build social and life skills. It’s inviting charities and community groups to express interest in reusing last year’s decorations, too.
ORBA and Mastercard have pledged to restore close to 60,000 trees globally through eligible transactions at 12 participating Orchard Road malls from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, via Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition partner, Conservation International Foundation. ORBA is running open-top bus tours for migrant workers and organising festive gatherings and wellness programmes at Fei Yue Active Ageing Centres.
From 16 to 22 December, more than 200 performers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Canada, the United Kingdom and Singapore take part in Celebrate Christmas in Singapore, organised by the local charity of the same name. For more festive events with confirmed dates, see the Christmas in Singapore 2026 guide, which keeps a running list.
