Oriental Kopi’s 128-Layer Taro Egg Tart Is Here Until 30 November

Oriental Kopi has added two purple pastries to its Singapore menu, the Taro Egg Tart and the Taro Polo Bun, and both leave on 30 November 2026. If your feed has been all matcha and sourdough lately, this is a fresh reason to swing by Bugis Junction, where the tarts go for S$3 each with a minimum order of two.

The Malaysian kopitiam (a traditional coffee shop) chain was founded in Malaysia in 2021. It opened its first Singapore outlet at Bugis Junction in November 2024 through a joint venture with Paradise Group, the restaurant group behind brands like Paradise Dynasty. The taro pastries arrive alongside four new Ayam Masak Merah mains, which are staying for good, and two limited-time Sour Plum drinks.

Two Fillings, One Purple Shell

The Taro Egg Tart is a twist on the chain’s signature Oriental Egg Tart. Oriental Kopi says the taro version layers Taiwanese Dajia taro paste beneath egg custard inside a purple pastry. The brand describes that pastry as flaky, made with French butter and folded into 128 layers. The result is two soft fillings in one crisp shell, and that purple-then-gold cross-section is built for a photo before the first bite!

The Taro Polo Bun reworks the other house signature, a warm bun with a crisp crust. This one gets a smooth taro paste filling plus a thick slab of chilled butter. Eat this one at the table rather than taking it home, because the whole appeal is that moment when the cold butter meets the warm filling.

Ayam Masak Merah, Four Ways

The longer-lasting news sits on the savoury side of the menu. Ayam masak merah translates from Malay as “chicken cooked red”, and Oriental Kopi describes its version as rich, spicy-sweet chicken.

Of the four, the Nasi Briyani is the one to order.

Nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk) is the comfortable pick for anyone trying the dish for the first time.

The Mee Siam is the wild card. It arrives with a boiled egg dusted in chilli, cucumber, lime and a dollop of sambal, which suggests a brighter, sharper plate than the two rice options. Kampung Mee Hoon Ayam Masak Merah is also S$12.30.

Sour Plum to Cut the Richness

After butter-stuffed buns and sambal chicken, a sour drink makes a lot of sense. The Passion Fruit Sour Plum pairs tropical passion fruit with sour plum, while the Lychee Sour Plum matches floral lychee sweetness with the plum’s tartness. Both run until 30 November 2026. Pick the passion fruit if you’re eating the Nasi Briyani, since its sharper tang should stand up better to the spice than the sweeter lychee.

🗓️ Date: Taro pastries and Sour Plum drinks until 30 November 2026; Ayam Masak Merah mains are permanent

🍛 Ayam Masak Merah mains: S$11.60 (Nasi Briyani, Nasi Lemak) and S$12.30 (Mee Siam, Kampung Mee Hoon)

Grab a friend so the two-tart minimum feels like sharing rather than overindulging, and check Oriental Kopi Singapore’s official pages for the latest updates before you go!
