Why Is a 1964 Korean Trio in LISA’s Nike Moon Shoe Ad?

The Nike Moon Shoe that LISA wears on a lunar set in Nike’s newest campaign is on sale now. Moon Shoe styles are listed on Nike Singapore, and the Moon Shoe OG SP is on the SNKRS app. If the ad has landed on your feed this month, here’s what Nike is selling you: a flat, slim heritage sneaker from the 1970s, set to a song that is older than the shoe.

Quick guide for Singapore shoppers

  • Where: Nike Singapore online, the SNKRS app (for the OG SP), and select Nike and partner retail stores
  • How much: S$149 for the Moon Shoe, Moon Shoe OG and Moon Shoe OG SP
  • What runs out: The Nike x Jacquemus pink pairs, which were only on resale by June 2026
  • What to do first: Try a pair on in store. There’s no midsole cushioning, and the Singapore listing has no customer reviews yet.

LISA Plants a Flag

Some background first. LISA, born LALISA MANOBAL, is the Thai rapper, singer and dancer who won a YG Entertainment audition at 14. She left home in Thailand to train as a K-pop artist and eventually became one-quarter of BLACKPINK. Nike announced her as a partner on 20 January 2026 and called the deal a long-term partnership rather than a one-off campaign booking.

Her solo career runs on its own track. She founded her label LLOUD in February 2024. Her single Rockstar debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Global 200, and her debut album Alter Ego opened at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 in 2025.

The new film is pure space-race theatre. LISA reaches the moon, leaves a shoe print in the dust, plants a Nike Sportswear (NSW) flag and stands on top of a lunar podium. Nike’s copy says she is “living out her ultimate dream, having achieved her moonshot.”

Treat that “moonshot” line as Nike’s storytelling. LISA has been a Bulgari global ambassador since 2020 and a Louis Vuitton House Ambassador since 2024, so this is a polished commercial partnership. None of that makes the ad any less fun to watch. Her own words about Nike are more charming anyway. In the January interview announcing the partnership, she recalled saving her allowance as a trainee to buy Nike Dunk Highs for dance practice. She also said she shared the brand’s “obsession with excellence, for craft and versatility.”

The Song Is Older Than the Shoe

The film is set to “Mister Magic Moon”, a 1964 recording by The Kim Sisters with Joe Tanner’s Orchestra.

The Kim Sisters were Sook-ja, Ae-ja and Min-ja Kim. They were Korean sisters who found substantial international exposure decades before “K-pop” was a genre label. Their sound was polished Las Vegas-style pop: tight female harmonies, choreographed routines, and a repertoire of jazz, swing and novelty songs, usually backed by big orchestral arrangements. “Mister Magic Moon” comes from their English-language, American-facing era.

Nike’s release calls them “the first globally successful K-Pop group, long before the term existed.” That’s the brand’s framing rather than a settled music-history category, but it’s easy to see why Nike reached for it. Tight harmonies plus choreography is the idol formula in its earliest form. The moon does the rest of the work, because the trio and the shoe have no shared history beyond that theme. For K-pop fans, it’s a great piece of trivia to drop in the group chat, and the song deserves a few listens on its own.

A Kitchen Waffle Iron Started It

The shoe has the stronger origin story of the two. According to Nike’s own history of the Moon Shoe, co-founder Bill Bowerman tested a waffle-sole idea using his kitchen waffle iron. Athletes first wore the Moon Shoe at the 1972 Olympic Marathon Trials in the United States.

Nike’s release credits the experiment with cementing the company’s reputation as an innovator and with giving rise to its first major footwear breakthroughs. In Nike’s words, the lesson was to “experiment boldly, keep refining, and never stop pushing forward.” That is also the bridge Nike builds to LISA’s career.

When you try a pair on, flip it over. The gum rubber lugs on the bottom are the reason the shoe exists. They are also what separates a Moon Shoe from every other slim retro trainer on the shelf.

Pick Your Colourway

Here’s what Nike Singapore lists.

Our pick, depending on what you want:

  • For daily wear, get the navy pair with the gum sole. A dark upper hides the MRT-platform grime that ruins white sneakers by week two, and gum soles age well.
  • For the ad’s energy, get the red pair. The campaign is built entirely around it, and it does the “colour in your rotation” job better than anything else in the range.

Skip the hunt for the designer pairs. The Nike x Jacquemus versions have been harder to get. Who What Wear reported in June 2026 that the pink Jacquemus pairs were only available on resale by then. That makes the S$149 mainline pairs the realistic route to the same silhouette.

Flat by Design

Here’s the part the moon landing skips. Coverage of the 2026 range describes the Moon Shoe as a low vintage racing flat with a waffle rubber outsole and no midsole cushioning. That makes it a casual shoe for short outings rather than an all-day walker.

That matters in Singapore, where a weekend of mall-hopping and transfers between MRT lines can rack up serious step counts. The women’s Moon Shoe listing on Nike Singapore had no customer reviews yet. If your feet are used to cushioned runners, try a pair on at a Nike or partner store before you commit.

If running is the goal, a modern cushioned trainer is still the better tool. Nike isn’t pitching the Moon Shoe as one anyway. It’s selling history, a slim shape and a little bit of LISA.

📍 Location: Nike.com and select Nike and partner retail stores worldwide; in Singapore, Nike Singapore lists the range, with the OG SP on the SNKRS app
💰 Price: From S$149 on Nike Singapore (listed retail); LISA’s “Tough Red” pair reported at US$105 in the US
👟 Colourways: White and black, all-white, navy with gum sole, brown and black, green, and red
🎵 Soundtrack: “Mister Magic Moon” (1964) by The Kim Sisters with Joe Tanner’s Orchestra

A K-pop soloist on a lunar podium, a 1964 trio harmonising in the background and a shoe born from a waffle iron add up to a lot of history for one ad, and it mostly works. Browse the full Moon Shoe range on Nike.com, then try a pair on in store. Keep the soundtrack on repeat while you decide between the sensible navy pair and the red one LISA took to the moon.
