Blue Plus Blonde Equals bluende
bluende is the band’s third EP and their first sung entirely in English. It comes through Cat’s Whiskers Co., Ltd. with distribution by YG PLUS, and through Interscope Records in North America. The group started out mostly singing in Korean. Switching to English is a deliberate step towards fans who don’t speak the language, and it comes in their busiest year yet.

The title mashes together blue and blonde. According to the band, it captures one sinking realisation: you can look as bright as you like, and the blue still pulls you back. They split that single mood across five songs, one each for regret, anguish, despair, desperation, and resignation.
“bluende is about the moment you realise you can’t outrun the blue, no matter how bright you try to look,” the band said in their release. “We didn’t want to hide that feeling. We split it into five songs, five emotions, and let each one be honest.”
The title track pairs a sad melody with a driving beat, which sums up how the band works. They pour their own blue feelings out so listeners can let go of theirs. Apple Music lists the EP at five songs and about 12 minutes. That makes it a commute-sized record you can finish before your bus reaches the interchange.
Twelve minutes leaves each emotion only a little over two minutes of its own. Treat the EP as a sharp introduction to the band rather than a deep dive.
Why English, and Why Now
The members are vocalist Lee Dohun, guitarist Kim Chaehyun, bassist Lee Hwuiwon, keyboardist Kwon Dahyun and drummer Kim Daehun. They told Taiwanese music platform StreetVoice that they were most excited about meeting overseas listeners in person and seeing how people from different cultures react to the songs. They’ve also been brushing up on their English for stage banter, which is a sweet detail for a band about to play seven cities in six countries in nine days.

The band write instruments first and lyrics after, so the English words are set on top of melodies built for feel. That helps an all-English record sound natural rather than translated.
Other Korean bands have taken a different route. DAY6, for example, built an international following on a mainly Korean-language catalogue. Apple Music notes that their 2015 debut EP The Day reached No. 2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. can’t be blue have gone fully English a little over two years after their June 2024 debut.
A Breakout 2026, Month by Month
Here’s some context if you’re new to the band. Since debuting in June 2024, they have built up 950,000+ monthly Spotify listeners, according to their release. The same release says their debut single in the words i called love has passed 30 million streams. That song grew organically after shout-outs from Soobin of K-pop group TXT and Seoyeon of girl group fromis_9.

- May: They sold out Taipei’s SUB LIVE, an 800-capacity venue, according to their release.
- June: They released a full-length album, can’t be blue. It featured can’t love with HAN of Stray Kids and blue daisy with Japanese artist Murasaki Ima. They were also picked for Spotify RADAR Korea 2026, the streaming platform’s emerging-artist programme.
- July: They opened for K-pop group ATEEZ at Rock in Roma, a summer music festival in Rome, Italy.
- August: This was their biggest month. Emergenza is an international competition for up-and-coming bands. It runs national rounds and then a global final in Germany. can’t be blue’s release says they became the first Korean act to win its International Final. A Japanese report on the final put their score at 267 points, two ahead of Japan’s pod’z on 265, at Taubertal Festival in Rothenburg. Kim Chaehyun also took home Best Guitarist.
- September: They played Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival.

If you’d rather make a trip to the band’s home city, our South Korea travel guide has ideas well beyond the usual itinerary.
The band are disarmingly humble about touring. “If even one person is listening and enjoying it, we’ll give everything. We hope people leave the show feeling a little lighter,” they said. It’s the same idea as the record, taken onto the stage.
Where to Start
- Three minutes to spare? Play the title track first. It’s the clearest example of what this band does: sadness on top, and a beat underneath that won’t let you wallow.
- Coming from K-pop? can’t love with HAN is the friendliest way into their older catalogue.
bluende is worth your time because it’s honest. Most songs about feeling low promise a sunrise by the bridge. This EP admits the blue sometimes comes back.
