Three one-of-a-kind MORNING coffee machines, each hand-inlaid with mother-of-pearl, go up for online auction from 14 to 25 October 2026. Bids start at S$1,150, and State Property says full proceeds go to Rainbow Centre. Each design comes from a bedtime story told by a three-year-old, and all three are on display at Takashimaya and New Bahru, so you can see them in person before deciding how far to bid.
The collaboration pairs Singapore jewellery label State Property with homegrown coffee technology company MORNING. It turns three motifs from State Property’s The Story of Everything collection into machines built to sit on your kitchen counter. A standard MORNING Machine is listed at S$660, so even the lowest opening bid is S$490 above that price. Here, paying over retail is the point, because the extra money supports people with disabilities and their families.

Captain Lime and a Golden Egg
The Story of Everything didn’t start in a design studio. It began with Mika, the son of State Property co-founders Lin Ruiyin and Afzal Imram. In the story he told at three, a boy blasts through the cosmos with his partner, Captain Lime. Together they ride railroad loop-the-loops and swoosh past glowing toadstools, all in search of a golden egg. As plots go, that beats a fair chunk of what’s on Netflix this month.
His parents turned that bedtime routine into a fine jewellery collection, which the brand says marks its tenth anniversary. State Property was founded in Singapore in 2015. “We loved the freedom in the way he told it; there were no rules about where the story could go or what belonged together,” said Lin, a Central Saint Martins graduate who leads the label’s creative direction. Trains, mushrooms and eggs have no business sharing a jewellery box, and somehow it works.
Afzal trained in industrial design at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He says the couple “had been admirers and customers of MORNING long before this project came about.” He saw a natural link between “a machine made for that first ritual of the day and a collection that finds the extraordinary in the ordinary.” MORNING co-founder and CEO Leon Foo described the project as “two Singapore-born design brands, working in completely different mediums, but sharing an obsession with objects, craft and everyday rituals.”
The Railroad: S$1,350 Opening Bid
The highest starting bid belongs to The Railroad, on display at MORNING at New Bahru on Kim Yam Road. In Mika’s universe, the railroad loops, doubles back and arrives somewhere no map would suggest. On the machine, that winding track runs in mother-of-pearl along both sides, with each piece laid by hand.

In the jewellery, the same idea appears as rows of pavé diamonds (small stones set close together) between gold bands that look like twin tracks. On a coffee machine, it looks more like a toy train set climbing up your kitchen wall, which suits something a preschooler invented.
At New Bahru, visitors can study the track up close and scan the QR code beside the machine to bid on the spot. That beats squinting at product photos on a phone screen, especially when you’re deciding whether a coffee machine is worth bidding on.

The Toadstool: Glow on Black
The Toadstool sits at MORNING at Takashimaya S.C. in Basement 1 (B1), with an opening bid of S$1,250. Its origin is the sweetest of the three. According to State Property, Mika described a planet covered in glowing mushrooms one evening “as though he had been there himself”, and that landscape later found its way into the collection.

On the machine, the toadstool is pared back until only the pattern of its cap remains, with pieces of mother-of-pearl set against a black surface. Shell against black makes iridescence stand out more than any other pairing. That’s why this is the strongest pick of the three if looks are what you’re paying for.
In the jewellery, the mushroom shows up in many forms, from domed gold studs scattered with diamonds to a red pendant on a fine chain. The coffee machine reduces it to pattern alone, and that’s a smart call. A full cartoon mushroom on an appliance would date quickly, while a shell cap pattern should still look good years from now.
Since the Cosmic Egg is on Level 3, three levels above the Toadstool at Level B1, in the same mall, one Orchard Road trip covers two of the three machines. Add it to any Takashimaya stop already on your list of things to do in Singapore this October 2026.
The Cosmic Egg: Cheapest Way In
The Cosmic Egg is on display at the State Property Boutique on Level 3 of Takashimaya S.C., with the lowest opening bid at S$1,150. In the jewellery, each gemstone sits in a star-like setting of fine points. On the machine, that detail repeats in mother-of-pearl across the side panels until it starts to look like a night sky.

That makes it the most realistic target for anyone bidding on a tighter budget. The shell’s shifting colour as light moves across it suits a machine you’d switch on before sunrise. It’s the egg Mika’s hero spent the whole story chasing, so in a sense it’s the finale of the set!
Where Your Bid Goes
Rainbow Centre has worked with children and adults with disabilities and their families for nearly 40 years. It began with Margaret Drive Special School in 1987 and now runs three campuses. Its annual report for financial year 2024/25 counts 2,245 persons with disabilities supported across early intervention, special education, employability and adult services.
Rainbow Centre Executive Director Peng Hai Ying said that “beyond the funds raised, initiatives like these help build greater visibility and understanding of the importance of inclusion for persons with disabilities.” That’s the quiet strength of this auction. A mother-of-pearl coffee machine on someone’s counter will spark the conversation about inclusion over and over, long after the bidding closes.
