If you missed Mafia III when it launched in 2016, this is the easiest time yet to pick it up. Mafia III: Definitive Edition arrived on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 8 October 2026 with 60 frames per second (FPS) gameplay. It’s also 80% off for a limited time on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.
Before you buy from Singapore:
- Where: The PlayStation Store, Xbox store or Steam. The 80% discount is listed across all three platforms.
- How much: 80% off the usual price, as part of a wider Mafia franchise sale. Open your local store page to see the exact price in S$.
- When: The sale runs for a limited time. Check the store listing for the end date before you wait for payday.
- Already own it on PS4 or Xbox One? You may be eligible for the upgrade at no extra cost. Confirm the store shows it as free before you pay. There’s more on this below.
The release marks a birthday. The original game launched on 7 October 2016. Publisher 2K and Hangar 13, the studio that made it, celebrated the 10th anniversary with the new console versions and a fresh Steam update for PC players, which went live at the same time.
Lincoln Clay’s Revenge, Ten Years On
If you’re new to the game, Lincoln Clay is the reason people still remember it. In 2K’s words, he “blazes a violent path of revenge” through the mob-run city of New Bordeaux, Louisiana, in 1968. He takes the city’s criminal empire apart one district at a time. The story has real anger behind it and isn’t a power fantasy in a nice suit.
Its reputation split down the middle, though. Fans still praise the atmosphere, the story, the soundtrack and Lincoln himself. Critics never forgave the repetitive mission design or the technical problems.
That split matters if you’re deciding whether to play it. Ten years of patches can’t redesign a mission structure. They can fix the jank that used to get in the way of the parts people loved.
What 60 FPS Changes
2K says the Definitive Edition runs at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and comes with unspecified “technical improvements”. The game is built around car chases and gunfights through crowded streets, so a higher frame rate makes driving and aiming noticeably smoother than they were in the PS4-era original.
What’s in the package:
- The base game
- All three story expansions: Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times
- The Family Kick-Back and Judge, Jury & Executioner bonus packs
That’s a lot of New Bordeaux for one purchase, and the discount takes 80% off the usual price.
The Steam Patch Fixes Old Wounds
PC players get the most hands-on attention. The Steam update goes after the bugs that stopped people finishing the game. The full list is in 2K’s patch notes, dated 8 October 2026.
What the patch fixes:
- Progression blockers in missions including “Get Enzo Conti”, “Kill Tommy Marcano” and the epilogue
- Crashes
- Checkpoint and objective-tracking errors
- Broken achievements
- Glitchy behaviour from non-player characters (NPCs) and companions
- A batch of graphics and interface problems
What it adds: new FPS-lock options up to 240 FPS, which is useful if you have a high-refresh monitor.
The progression-blocker fixes matter most. Getting stuck in the epilogue of a revenge story means you never see how it ends, and that bug has now been addressed.
Already Own It? Check Before You Pay
If you bought Mafia III on PS4 or Xbox One, you’re probably eligible for the current-gen version at no extra cost. The same goes for some owners of Mafia: Trilogy and Mafia: The Omertà Collection.
Check the store listing before you buy: the free upgrade depends on the platform account that owns the original, and the store page should show it as free before you pay.
Is Mafia III Worth 80% Off?
If you like story-heavy crime games and haven’t played it, yes. The 80% discount is a limited-time promotional price within a wider Mafia franchise sale. Check your PlayStation, Xbox or Steam store page for the exact S$ price and the end date. The main risk is that the side activities feel repetitive. Even so, you get one of the most memorable settings 2K has published.
If you’ve finished it before, it depends on your platform. PC players get the most out of the Steam patch. Eligible console owners get a free move to 60 FPS once the upgrade works for them.
