A Free Cup on the Day: Royal Plaza on Scotts
The simplest way to mark Thursday costs nothing. Royal Plaza on Scotts is pouring a complimentary coffee at Gourmet Carousel on 1 October, from 7.30am to 6pm.
- Any coffee on the Barista menu counts, hot or iced: a flat white, a long black or an iced latte.
- No minimum spend, and walk-ins are as welcome as hotel guests.
- How to claim: scan the QR code at the counter to register. You’ll get a single-use confirmation screen; show it at the Gourmet Carousel Barista counter and order.
It’s one coffee per person, and cups are limited and go first come, first served, so get there early. If you want to linger, fresh bakes and pâtisserie sit right by the counter, but you don’t have to buy anything.

The Cheapest Cup, If You Already Have It: Luckin Coffee
This deal only works for people who already own Luckin Coffee‘s S$2.99 coupon pack. Here’s how it works:
- The promotion that sold the pack has ended. Luckin’s 1-for-1 coffee promotion ran from 25 to 28 September, and the coupon pack was sold during that promotion.
- The coupons themselves are still live. You can use them from 29 September to 2 October, which covers International Coffee Day itself.
- What to do: Open the app and check for unused coupons. If they’re still sitting there, Thursday is the day to spend them.
If you didn’t buy the pack during that promotion, the free cup at Royal Plaza on Scotts is your easiest option on the day. For pack owners, the coupons cover 1 October itself.
Luckin is the app-first coffee chain that has spread quickly across Singapore since 2024, alongside Tim Hortons and Kopi Kenangan. It announced on 28 September 2026 that it now has 100 Singapore stores. The company also says its Coconut Latte and Little Butter Latte have each passed 2 million cups sold locally. Those are Luckin’s own figures.

Hunt for a S$1,000 Bean: Singapore Coffee Week
The deal with the longest runway comes from Singapore Coffee Week, whose 2026 programme turns café-hopping into a treasure hunt. Its Golden Bean Hunt has 10 beans worth S$1,000 each, and redemptions run from 19 September to 2 November.
This one is less about International Coffee Day and more about giving you a reason to finally visit the cafés you keep saving on Instagram. It runs until 2 November, so it’s the best option for anyone who would rather explore than grab one discounted cup. It’s also the only deal here that runs past this week. Treat 1 October as a good day to start your café crawl, and keep going into November.

A Nation of Double Drinkers
Most Singaporeans don’t pick sides in the tea-versus-coffee debate. A YouGov survey of 1,028 Singapore adults, carried out from 8 to 12 May 2025, found that 74% regularly drink both. Only 6% drink coffee alone.
What goes into the cup is more varied than you might expect. For a 2025 story, The Straits Times asked 43 people to log their coffee and collected 413 cups:
- 25% were espresso-based drinks
- about 17% were local kopi
- a similar 17% were instant coffee
The sample is small, so it can’t speak for the whole island. Still, it’s a fun snapshot of a city where a flat white and a three-in-one sachet sit on the same desk.
The money side tells a similar story. Market researcher Euromonitor reports that hot drinks in Singapore grew 3% in retail value in 2025, with coffee growing fastest because of premium products. That figure measures spending, not cups, so it doesn’t mean we’re drinking more coffee than before. It means we’re paying more for better beans, which anyone who has watched their latte price creep up already knows.
Already Missed a Few?
It’s been a busy year for coffee lovers, and some of the best events are already over:
- Another Coffee Festival ran from 3 to 6 September at Guoco Tower Urban Park. 34 specialty roasters from nine countries and regions poured tasting cups.
- Singapore Coffee Experience took over the Lifelong Learning Institute on 27 and 28 March, with free entry, samples and an activity passport. Cafés such as Diff Specialty and Coexist Coffee Co. took part.
Both events used a similar hands-on format: you wander, sample and collect stamps instead of sitting through a formal tasting. Hotels have used the idea too. When Citadines ran its exclusive kopi tour for International Coffee Month in 2024, the appeal came from meeting the local coffee culture in person. If you missed those events, the Golden Bean Hunt is this season’s closest match.
So, Which Cup Wins Thursday?
Here’s the order we’d follow:
1. By Wednesday, 30 Sep: Go to FairPrice Xtra if your pantry is low.
2. Thursday, 1 Oct, from 7.30am: Claim your free coffee at Gourmet Carousel, Royal Plaza on Scotts. Go early; cups are limited.
3. Also Thursday: Use your Luckin coupons, if you have them. They’re valid until 2 October.
4. Until 2 Nov: Use the Golden Bean Hunt as your excuse to visit a few cafés over the next month.
