Buying an Air Purifier for the Haze? SHARP’s S$744 Purefit Looks Like Furniture

With haze back in the forecast, plenty of Singaporeans are shopping for air purifiers again, bracing for the usual chunky box that sits in the corner like it wandered out of a clinic. There’s a new option on the shelf. SHARP has launched its Purefit Plasmacluster Air Purifier (FX-S82E-B/L) in Singapore at S$744 (RRP), and it’s built to look like part of the room.

SHARP’s pitch is simple: cleaner air shouldn’t cost you a living room you like. The Purefit comes with a dedicated Haze Mode, a slim shell that sits flush against a wall, and an iF Design Award 2026. The more useful question is whether all that justifies paying more than rival purifiers that cover bigger rooms for less.

Designed to Blend In

SHARP says the iF Design Award recognised the Purefit for its compact design. The two finishes, Stone Grey and Stone Black, are the muted tones you’d pick for a shelf or side table rather than anything that screams hospital equipment. SHARP describes the look as clean lines and a minimal appearance, and the photos back that up.

(If you’re curious how design gets judged closer to home, our coverage of SG Mark 2026 walks through this year’s local winners.) With the Purefit, though, the looks only matter because of where the thing is meant to stand.

The Wall Is the Point

Most purifiers need breathing room, so they end up parked in the middle of the floor where everyone trips over them. The Purefit is designed to sit against a wall, thanks to what SHARP calls Wall Fit COANDA Airflow.

The Coanda effect describes how a stream of air tends to hug a nearby surface. The unit pushes clean air up the wall and across the ceiling so it spreads through the room, while a faster stream at the back pulls in dust from lower down. With a maximum airflow of 7.0m³ per minute, it can draw in dust from farther away than its size suggests.

That matters most in a Housing & Development Board (HDB) flat, where every square metre already belongs to a sofa, a shoe rack or a cat tree. The unit measures 285 × 525 × 285mm and weighs 7.2kg, so it’s a little over half a metre tall and slim enough to tuck beside a TV console without claiming the room as its own.

Six Filters, Two Sides

Inside, the Dual-Sided Triple Filter Design pulls air in from both sides, with three layers on each:

  • A washable pre-filter catches pet hair and larger dust.
  • An activated carbon filter absorbs cigarette smoke, pet smells and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the gases released by everyday items like paint and cleaning products.
  • The nanoHD Plus Filter, which SHARP says captures up to 99% of particles as small as 0.003µm, including PM2.5 and PM10 (the fine-particle readings you see in haze updates), plus pollen and pet dander.

The unit also carries the Allergy UK Seal of Approval, awarded after the British Allergy Foundation tested how well it reduces exposure to dust mite allergens and pollen. That’s an outside body putting its name on the product, which counts for more than any figure on the box.

SHARP lists a clean air delivery rate (CADR), a measure of how much filtered air a purifier puts out, of 480m³, with coverage for rooms up to 62m². Our favourite practical touch is that you can vacuum dust off the pre-filters without removing the side panels, which makes routine cleaning far less of a chore.

Haze Mode, Pet Mode, Your Phone

Six sensors track dust, odour, humidity, temperature and light, and the purifier adjusts itself as conditions shift. SHARP’s mobile app pairs over Bluetooth, lets you check air quality and control the unit remotely, and uses AI Custom to tailor how it runs.

Haze Mode is the one most readers will care about this month. It ramps up air collection when outdoor air quality drops, catching the particles that sneak in through window gaps every time someone opens the door. Pet Mode is a bonus for households with furkids, targeting the dander and smells that come with cats and dogs.

SHARP’s Plasmacluster Ion Technology runs alongside the filters. The company says it has more than 20 years of development behind it, has been verified by over 40 institutes and organisations worldwide, and ships in more than 100 million products. SHARP also claims its ions help suppress up to 99.9% of airborne viruses and bacteria, a manufacturer figure worth reading as exactly that.

How It Stacks Up

S$744 puts the Purefit at the pricier end of the mid-range, so it’s worth seeing what similar money buys elsewhere. Here’s how it compares on current Singapore listings, using each brand’s own coverage claims (which aren’t always measured the same way):

ModelSingapore priceStated coverageFiltration
SHARP Purefit FX-S82ES$744 (RRP)Up to 62m²Dual-sided pre-filter, carbon and nanoHD Plus
Philips PureProtect 3200About S$555Up to 135m²Multi-stage particle and allergen filter
Dyson Purifier Cool Gen1 TP10About S$599Whole roomSealed HEPA H13 plus carbon
Blueair Blue Pure 211+About S$539Up to 48m²HEPASilent mechanical plus electrostatic
Levoit Core 600SAbout S$899 (marketplace)About 147m²H13 True HEPA

On paper, the Philips PureProtect 3200 is the value pick. It’s roughly S$190 cheaper and claims more than double the room coverage. The Dyson costs about S$145 less and uses sealed H13 HEPA filtration, while the Blueair is cheaper again but rated for smaller rooms than the Purefit.

Where SHARP wins is the wall-hugging design, the Allergy UK certification, and a Haze Mode that’s purpose-built for exactly this season. The Purefit has company now.

So, Is S$744 Worth It?

Our take: the Purefit is worth it if floor space is your real problem, like in a compact HDB living room or bedroom where a purifier stranded mid-floor would drive you mad. If you have an open-plan space and want the most coverage per dollar, the Philips makes a stronger case for less money.

Two practical notes before you check out. First, S$744 is the recommended price rather than a fixed one, since a Lazada listing had it at S$727 and one Singapore shopping guide listed it at S$699, so a little patience could save you around S$45. Second, the Purefit runs two sets of filters, one per side, which means replacing the HEPA filter (FZ-S80H2E) and deodorising filter (FZ-D40D2E) as pairs. For reference, the Philips AC3220’s replacement filter runs about S$119 a year, replaced every 12 months, so budget for upkeep on top of the sticker price. The warranty covers one year.
