Sabastian Sawe ran a marathon in 1:59:30 in April 2026, the first person to break two hours in race conditions, and the shoe on his foot was a limited-run adidas prototype most runners would never get near. Five months later, the technology from that shoe is on the wall at adidas Brand Centre Orchard and six other stores across Singapore, at S$359.
That is the pitch behind the Adizero Adios Pro 5, which adidas unveiled in Singapore on 22 September 2026 at S$359. It borrows the design language of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, the sub-two shoe, and rebuilds the everyday Pro line around it.

23 Grams Lighter, 9% More Return
The headline change is ENERGYRIM, a carbon-infused structure that wraps around the midsole instead of running through it. adidas has retired ENERGYRODS, the rod system that defined the Pro series for years, and the swap is the whole point: a rim around the outside leaves more LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam sitting directly under your foot, while the carbon still tunes stiffness for propulsion and stability through the stride.
Put that together with a lighter build and adidas claims a 9% improvement in energy return over the Adios Pro 4. The Pro 5 weighs an average of 177g in a UK 8.5 sample, which is 23g, or 12%, down on the shoe it replaces. That is roughly the weight of four S$1 coins off each foot, and over 42km it adds up.
One thing worth being straight about: 9% more energy return is a measurement of the shoe, not a promise about your finishing time. Energy return is what the foam and carbon give back on the lab bench. What you do with it depends on your pace, your running economy, the weather and whether the shoe’s geometry suits how you land. Anyone selling you a fixed time saving is selling you something.
What Else adidas Changed
The upper is a full redesign called LIGHTLOCK 2.0, with engineered ventilation zones, internal support bands and a new heel construction. That is adidas answering the most common complaint about race-day super shoes, which is that a featherweight upper with no structure lets your foot slide around exactly when you are pushing hardest.
Underneath, a new maximum grip outsole pairs adidas’ data-driven LIGHTTRAXION design with Continental rubber. Grip on a wet Singapore road matters more here than in most marathon cities, and the durability claim matters if you intend to race this shoe more than twice at S$359 a pair.
adidas calls the Pro 5 the most extensively tested shoe in Adizero history, with trials involving over 25 athletes across Kenya, Ethiopia and the US, plus long-term wear testing and independent biomechanical research. Sawe himself was part of that development process.
The Evo 3 Gap, Explained
Here is the context that makes the price interesting. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 launched in April 2026 at US$500, averaged 97g, and came out in limited pairs. It is the shoe adidas builds when durability is somebody else’s problem. We covered the Evo 2 last year when adidas first went after the weight record, and the pattern has held since: the halo shoe goes to the elites, and a year or so later the ideas filter down.
The Pro 5 is that filtering. It is heavier than the Evo 3 and it is meant to be, because 177g of shoe survives a training block and a race and the next race after that. At S$359 it also lands in the same bracket as the rest of the super-shoe field, which is worth knowing before you commit. Honest take: go to one. A super shoe is a personal fit question, and carbon geometry that feels like free speed to one runner feels unstable to another. The early word from runners who have logged miles in the Pro 5 points to the lower weight and better stability as the real wins over the Pro 4, which is precisely the sort of thing you can only judge with the shoe on.
