ROSÉ‘s “new trick” landed on 18 September 2026 with a music video, a lyric about kicking down doors, and a corporate co-sign most pop singles never get. The video was shot entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro, and Apple is running it as the flagship creative for its latest “Shot on iPhone” campaign. Which means the song you have on repeat is also, technically, a camera advert.
That is the strange bargain of pop music in 2026, and ROSÉ’s rollout makes it easy to see. Alongside her, there’s Miley‘s tenth album and a Teddy Swims single that finally announces his second record. Three very different releases, three very different ideas of what a launch even is.

The Phone Is the Co-Star
The video was directed by Dave Meyers, whose credits run through Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and Ariana Grande, so this isn’t a brand handing a phone to a hobbyist and hoping. Meyers shot the whole thing on the iPhone 18 Pro, which brings variable aperture control to an iPhone for the first time. In plain terms, that’s the ability to change how much of the background goes soft behind a subject, the thing that used to require a proper cinema lens and a focus puller sweating over it.
Apple has done this before, and the list is a decent map of the last six years in pop: Lady Gaga‘s “Stupid Love” on the iPhone 11, Olivia Rodrigo‘s “Get Him Back!” on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and The Weeknd‘s “Dancing in the Flames” on the iPhone 16 Pro. If you’ve followed The Weeknd’s multimedia era, you already know how comfortably these artists fold a product into a rollout. ROSÉ is the newest name on that list, and arguably the biggest lever Apple has pulled yet, given she’s cleared over 10 billion solo streams and her Bruno Mars collaboration “APT.” was the number one best-selling global single of 2025.
So is the song compromised? Honestly, no. “new trick” is a fizzy, slightly unhinged alt-pop record that borrows the energy of 90s rom-coms and the scuffed guitars of the early 2000s. The hook is “Lovesick, I’ll pick my heart off the floor,” followed immediately by a “Ka-pow” and a door getting kicked open. It’s a breakup song with the self-pity surgically removed, and it’s the most fun she’s sounded since rosie.

What ROSÉ Says She’s Building
She wrote the track with Amy Allen, her “APT.” collaborator, during sessions in New York City. Speaking to VOGUE, she called it “possibly the cutest thing” the two of them have ever made together, and then gave fans something more interesting about what comes next.
“I’ve been working on new music for quite some time now, and I’m still in the process of finding the perfect fine line between the world I want to create, how much of that expresses who I am today, and who I, personally and as a musician, am evolving into,” she said. “I’m excited to see where this journey continues to take me, what sort of sound resonates [with] me, and to introduce a new era of my music next year.”
Read that again: a new era next year. “new trick” isn’t the album, it’s the doorway. Which makes the Apple tie-in feel less like a sellout moment and more like an enormous billboard she’s borrowing on her way to somewhere else.
Miley’s Tenth Album Is the Week’s Real Listen
If ROSÉ has the tech story, Miley has the numbers. Bass Persuades, out 18 September 2026 via Atlantic Records, is her tenth studio album and her first for the label. The title track arrived as the lead single and became the #1 Most Added Overall Song at US radio, debuting at #1 on the US Spotify Top Songs chart and #2 globally.

The focus track is “Let’s Get Married,” and it’s the one worth your first listen. It’s a vow renewal written as a late-night impulse, all “Let’s turn the rest of our lives into a holiday,” produced with Kid Harpoon and Michael Pollack among others, and the video was directed by Mert Alas, filmed at the Chateau Marmont with Miley’s fiancé Maxx Morando in it. Casting the actual fiancé in the actual wedding song is either very sincere or very good marketing, and with Miley the answer has always been both.
Also on the tracklist: “Different Religion” featuring Model/Actriz, “REDLIGHTS,” “Neon Signs” with Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, and a Bass Persuades Remixx closing it out. She earned Record of the Year for “Flowers” at the 2024 GRAMMYs and a 2025 GRAMMY with Beyoncé, so the pedigree is not in question.

Teddy Swims Finally Names the Album
The third one crept up quietly. Teddy Swims released “Perfect Man” on 18 September 2026 and used it to announce UGLY, his second album, arriving 22 January 2027 on Warner Records. He wrote it across the 15 months since his son was born, which explains a lot about the single.

“Perfect Man” opens as a piano ballad and swells into a full band with a four-piece string section and four horns behind him. The hook, “There’s no such thing as a perfect man,” keeps shifting meaning until it lands somewhere genuinely bruising: she never wanted perfection, only for him to try harder.
“I’ve held myself to a standard that is completely unrealistic,” Swims said. “I’ve been too hard on myself as a partner, as a father.” For context on the scale here, his Diamond-certified “Lose Control” spent 112 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and passed 5 billion global streams.
🎵 Out now: “Perfect Man”, released 18 September 2026
💿 Album: UGLY, 22 January 2027 on Warner Records
🎤 Tour opens: 22 September 2026, T-Mobile Center, Kansas City
👥 Support: Natasha Bedingfield, Avery Anna and Wyatt Flores across the North American run
🌍 Then: Europe, March 2027
🌙 Best for: A quiet night
Pick One, Not Three
If you only have twenty minutes this week, spend them on Bass Persuades. It’s the fullest body of work here and the one with something to argue about. “new trick” is the better single by a nose, a two-and-a-half-minute sugar rush that works just as well without the iPhone context, and Teddy’s “Perfect Man” is the one to save for a quiet night.
As for the Apple question, it’s worth sitting with. Pop rollouts have always been paid for by someone, and a camera company underwriting a Dave Meyers video is a better trade than most. Watch “new trick“, enjoy it, and clock the aperture doing its thing in the background. Then go and follow ROSÉ’s own channels for whatever that new era turns out to be next year, because on this evidence it’s going to be worth the wait!
