Spyro’s Birthday Cake Burned Away on Community Day 2026, and His New World Looks Gorgeous

Most birthday cakes get candles. Spyro’s was built to burn. For Spyro Community Day 2026, Toys for Bob celebrated the purple dragon’s birthday with a burn-away cake and gave fans a first look at Arcadian Vale, an early region in Spyro: A Realm Beyond, which launches in Spring 2027.

If you grew up on the original PlayStation collecting gems and toasting sheep, this one hits close to home. A Realm Beyond is the first new Spyro game in almost 20 years. The Community Day update puts a real place on the map for his return.

A Cake Built to Burn

The concept is gloriously on-brand. Toys for Bob built the cake around Spyro’s fiery personality, then let it burn away to expose the in-game surprises hidden underneath.

Fans were there to watch it go up, and the trailer catches their reactions as each surprise appears. Spyro’s answer to most problems is breathing fire on them, so setting his birthday cake alight is smart theatre, and prime group-chat material.

Better still for fans in Singapore, there’s no need to set an alarm. The Community Day trailer and the full update, Arcadian Vale first look included, sit on Activision’s official Spyro blog, ready to watch whenever you like.

First Stop, Arcadian Vale

Arcadian Vale is one of the first areas players will discover in Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Toys for Bob and Activision say it “captures the charm and wonder that defines Spyro’s new adventure”, and the first images back that up.

Picture blue castles rising above green valleys, all stitched together with bridges. It’s a layout that practically begs you to launch off one tower and sail to the next. Good news, then, that full dragon flight is one of the big promises of the new game.

The locals look like fun. One Arcadian Vale creature wears armour plating in purple, pink, yellow, and turquoise. That’s a colour scheme loud enough to hold its own at a pasar malam, the pop-up night markets Singaporeans love. The region as a whole reads like the candy-bright worlds of the original games, redrawn with far more detail.

Why Spyro’s Return Hit So Hard

Xbox unveiled A Realm Beyond on 7 June 2026 during its annual summer games broadcast. That June slot has been the go-to stage for big reveals since E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) bowed out, as DANAMIC’s roundup of the shows that replaced E3 in 2023 laid out. The reveal made noise. Gaming Age reported that the announcement trailer passed 16 million views.

The road here runs through Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Toys for Bob’s remake of the first three games. It arrived on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2018, followed by Nintendo Switch and Windows in September 2019. The collection has since sold 11 million copies, and that success reportedly helped convince Xbox to greenlight a brand-new adventure.

The Studio That Bought Itself Back

Toys for Bob, based in Novato, California, joined Activision in 2005. Beyond Reignited, the team made Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. It then spent a stretch supporting Activision Blizzard’s biggest live-service games, including Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Overwatch 2.

2024 changed everything. Microsoft’s layoffs across Activision Blizzard cut 1,900 jobs, 86 of them at Toys for Bob, and in February the studio announced it was going independent. Co-studio head Paul Yan has said the team proposed to “buy back our independence”. The goal was to take back “creative control, organisational control, financial control”.

Xbox backed the move on one condition: the studio’s first game after the spin-out had to be published by Xbox. Picking Spyro made perfect sense. Yan has said the game “represents a return to the types of games that we are most passionate about making”, and that the idea had been in the studio’s head since 2018. Writing on Xbox’s official blog, he kept it simple: “we are huge Spyro fans ourselves”.

What to Know Before Spring 2027

Here’s the practical bit. Spyro: A Realm Beyond is confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Cloud, and Windows computers through the Xbox app and Steam. It’s on Xbox Game Pass at launch, so subscribers can play without buying it outright. Older consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One aren’t on the list.

The launch window is Spring 2027 in Pacific Time (PT), which for players here works out to roughly March to June 2027. There’s no exact date yet, and Activision and Toys for Bob haven’t announced a price, so hold off on budgeting just yet.

The footage so far leans cinematic, so the real test comes when players get their hands on the controller. How Spyro handles in the air will decide whether this return soars. On the strength of Arcadian Vale, the world-building side looks sorted, and Spring 2027 suddenly feels a lot closer than it did a week ago.
