Bad at Sleeping? Castlery Will Pay You S$2,000 to Prove It

Most job ads want three years of experience and a can-do attitude. This one wants to know why you were awake at 4am, scrolling, for no reason you could explain to another human being.

Castlery, the furniture brand founded in Singapore in 2013, launched its Ayrie mattress collection on 8 September 2026. To test it, the company is hiring five self-confessed bad sleepers as professional mattress testers for 20 nights. Each one keeps the mattress and walks away with S$2,000 in Castlery cash vouchers.

Finally, a Job You Qualify For

The brief is almost insultingly simple. Sleep on the Ayrie for 20 nights, document how it goes, and submit an honest review with photos and videos. Applications for the Bad Sleeper Programme opened on 8 September and close on 15 September, with shortlisted candidates called up for a short video interview before the assignment runs from 29 September to 18 October.

No professional sleeping experience needed. A poor track record will do.

Run the numbers and it holds up against a lot of part-time work: S$2,000 across 20 nights comes to S$100 a night for lying down in your own bedroom. The money lands as Castlery vouchers rather than a bank transfer, though S$2,000 of credit stretches far when the entry-level Ayrie starts at S$999.

Why Singapore Cannot Sleep

Castlery’s announcement cites a National University of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy article that ranks the country the world’s third most sleep-deprived city. Not the podium finish anyone prints on a tourism poster. The brand’s pitch leans on ResMed’s Global Sleep Survey too, the annual study that asks people worldwide how often they sleep well.

Anyone who has sat through a 9am standup after a 2am deadline knows the local version of this. Rest here gets treated as something you sneak instead of something you schedule, which is why we’ve argued that employers should do more for staff running on empty rather than quietly rewarding the ones who never switch off.

The worse your sleep, the stronger your application.

No Box, No Waiting Around

Every Ayrie turns up full-form and uncompressed. A decade after bed-in-a-box became the default, Castlery refused the format: nothing to unroll, no overnight wait for foam to remember its shape, no compression stress on the materials inside.

Castlery styles the Ayrie with its own beds and bedding, the whole-bedroom idea behind the new sleep range

The name comes from “open air”, and the build follows the idea. A cool-touch TENCEL Lyocell cover, gel-infused memory foam, and individually wrapped springs keep air moving through the mattress. Those wrapped springs cut motion transfer as well, so a partner’s 3am trip to the kitchen stays their problem.

The range carries an OEKO-TEX certified cover (a textile safety standard), CertiPUR-US foams (an American foam certification) with no fibreglass, and a 10-year warranty on every mattress.

Three Feels, Three Prices

Picking one skips the spec sheet entirely. Castlery splits the collection by feel:

The Ayrie in a full Castlery bedroom, from the wooden nightstands down to the brass lighting
  • Ayrie (from S$999): Firm, six-layer hybrid, in Single, Super Single, Queen and King
  • Ayrie Comfort (from S$1,799): Medium-Firm, seven-layer hybrid, in Queen and King
  • Ayrie Plush (from S$2,199): Medium, seven-layer hybrid, in Queen and King

Anyone who misses the cut still gets a 100-night sleep trial on the range. Five times the testing window, minus the two grand.

The Rest of the Bedroom

The mattress arrives with a whole bedroom behind it. The Miyo Bed (from S$899) picks up a gas-lift storage option that adjusts to the weight of the mattress, so the base opens smoothly and swallows everything the wardrobe cannot. For narrower rooms, the Mia Bed (from S$599) keeps a slimmer silhouette, rounded edges, and a cushioned headboard for sitting up in bed.

Around them sit the small things that quietly decide how a night goes: a Lyocell Mattress Protector (from S$99), Mulberry Silk Pillowcases (from S$149) in hypoallergenic, temperature-regulating fabric, and fresh colours across the Luxe Egyptian Cotton Sateen, Cool Lyocell Sateen, and Classic Cotton Percale bedding.

Castlery is B Corp certified, the third-party standard for social and environmental performance, and its Singapore site carries a 4.8 out of 5 rating across 22,966 customer reviews. The brand ships to the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and home.

Worth an Application?

Five spots, one week to apply, and a video interview between the shortlist and the mattress. The word carrying the weight in that brief is “honest”, which means the programme works only if testers write up the nights that go badly alongside the ones that finally go well. When was the last time a brand asked for that?
