It’s A r-Avo-lution! Subway Brings New Avocado Caesar Chicken Sub

Subway is home to literally over 30 million sandwich combinations, and now they are adding more with their latest sub, the new Avocado Caesar Chicken Sub. A Caesar sauce sandwich slathered with avocado might sound strange to some, but fortunately, I’m a huge fan of all things avocado: avocado toast, avocado smoothies, and even avocado soup, so I’m excited to try this!

I’m very familiar with avocado in a sandwich — it’s one of my go-to toppings when making my own. So, I would be lying if I said my curiosity was not piqued when I saw Subway had released this beauty. After all, it’s a limited-time promotion, and it’d be a shame not to try it at least once, right?

So take a chance with me, as I hope that Subway can live up to my avocado aficionado expectations as I try the new Avo Caesar Chicken Sub!

Will It Guac Your World?

My expectations are high as a passionate fan of avocado, so without further ado, let’s dive into what to expect from the Avo Chicken Caesar Sub!

Subway has promised an irresistible combination of tender roasted chicken thigh, juicy tomatoes, crisp lettuce, sweet corn, refreshing cucumber slices, and of course, delicious creamy avocado, all drizzled with zesty Caesar sauce delivered snugly between a toasty honey oat loaf. On paper, this all sounds delightfully mouthwatering! But how will it hold up to a taste test from a card-carrying Subway sceptic?

Subway Avocado Caesar Chicken Sub: Sandwich
We dissected the sandwich for inspection before digging in

Love at first bite? Almost.

After biting into the sandwich, the first thing that hit me was the Caesar sauce—just the barest hint of a spicy kick, followed by a tanginess that meshed wonderfully with the other components as a base flavour. A burst of umami came after crunching into each tomato slice, complementing the tender roast chicken thigh beautifully. The lettuce, with its thin crispness, provided a little extra texture variation.

The avocado’s trademark creaminess provided a well-needed smooth connection between the different ingredients. However, its taste faded into the background compared to the bonanza of flavours going with the Caesar sauce and the tomato.

It’s not a big issue. Avocado doesn’t have a strong taste and usually plays a supporting role in any dish it’s a part of. Unfortunately, other aspects disappointed me. The corn and cucumber were a little out of place, each for a different reason.

The corn, when I could eat a kernel individually, gave the bite a well-needed contrasting spark of sweetness to balance out the savoury, creamy chicken and avocado, but the corn kernels mostly got mashed up and lost amidst the stronger flavours. Meanwhile, the cucumber also didn’t stand out much – its clean, water-esque flavour got swept up into the whirlwind of tang, and it only added just a tiny bit of crunch, which the crisp lettuce honestly already did a better job of.

The Final A-Verdict-ado
