The DBS Marina Regatta (DBSMR) is back in its eighth edition, with a mission to educate and inspire Singaporeans from all walks of life to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle. Held at The Promontory at Marina Bay from Friday, 31 May to Sunday, 2 June 2019, this year’s DBSMR will see DBS up the ante on green initiatives with the use of recycled, reusable, and natural materials in various ways across the event; for instance, all F&B stall owners will be provided with reusable crockery and tableware, as well as biodegradable, recyclable containers for takeaways.
DBS has also partnered with Sunseap, a sustainable energy provider, to set up 100 solar panels at the event venue. The solar energy generated will be primarily used to power up Airbitat Smart Coolers, an eco-friendly and energy-saving alternative to conventional air-conditioning, that will be set-up around the Promontory.
In addition to DBS’ green initiatives, visitors at the DBSMR may also look forward to the exciting activities lined-up for the event.
Race The Maze
The main highlight of this year’s DBSMR will be the 23,000 sq ft maze made of RENEW material – which is made from 95% recycled material, consisting mainly of compressed “straw” made from leftover stems of crops.
Built as a sensory experience, adrenaline junkies and weekend warriors will have 12 minutes to navigate their way around Singapore’s largest eco-maze and complete ten eco-themed challenges. A test of speed and knowledge, participants who complete seven or more obstacles within the allocated 12 minutes will receive an attractive bonus gift pack!
The Grubhouse
DBSMR visitors are in for a gastronomical treat, featuring second-generation hawkers (hawkerpreneurs) who will serve up fine-tuned generations-old recipes. From carrot cake with bacon to fresh seafood by the bay to halal kebabs and more, there is something in store for all visitors. The Regatta will also be supporting the latest hawkerpreneurs and social enterprises so that event-goers can feast on creative eats like Impossible Burgers, churros, rainbow tea and grilled meats from around the region.
Busking by the Bay
Just as DBS has supported the growth of Singapore’s economy, it is also extending its support to aspiring musicians with Busking by the Bay. The DBS Marina Regatta weekend will see more than 20 young buskers sing their hearts out around the bay.
As part of the event’s cause for environmental sustainability, visitors are also encouraged to show their support for the buskers through Wheel for Watt, whereby visitors can pedal on stationary bicycles which will then generate electricity to power the buskers’ equipment.
Games and Workshops
This year’s Regatta features an array of family-friendly games, including the classic claw machines and a giant Jenga.
Those who are keen on the sustainability aspects of the event may check out the range of workshops organized by social enterprises. Workshops include learning how to compost and grow your own herb with Foodscape, creating art from old cassette tapes with Rehyphen and crafting a mushroom leather pouch with The Project Nomad, to name a few. Each of the workshops cost $20 per person, and each participant will also receive a reusable cup, tote bag and a pair of all-access passes to the National Gallery of Singapore.
Water Sports
Ideal for beginners, visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to try their hand at water sports such as dragon boating, kayaking and paddle boating. DBSMR will also see the return of their ever-popular free sailing sessions, allowing visitors to experience Marina Bay’s magnificent views from a whole new perspective on the water.
