GTA VI Pre-Load: 212 GB, 10 November and Two Different Start Times

Grand Theft Auto VI pre-loading opens on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, and Rockstar Games says the file needs up to 212 GB of free space. PlayStation 5 and Xbox owners get access at different hours, so the weekend is the time to clear your storage and work out which start time is yours.

Two Start Times

Rockstar has shared the timings. On PlayStation 5 (PS5), digital pre-loading begins at midnight local time in your own time zone. On Xbox Series X|S, the start is global and lands at 12am GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) for everyone at once.

So the two consoles split. PS5 players start at their own local midnight on 10 November, while Xbox players everywhere start at the same global moment, 12am GMT.

The flip side applies to readers in the US. With daylight saving over, 12am GMT works out to 7pm Eastern on Monday, 9 November, so Xbox players there start the evening before. PS5 players in the US wait for their own local midnight.

This is the detail most likely to trip people up, since a friend on the other console could be downloading hours before or after you. Group chats, consider yourselves warned!

Why 212 GB Changes Your Weekend

Rockstar says the pre-load “will require up to 212 GB depending on your device,” and it urges players to make “ample space to begin pre-loading as soon as possible.” The company hasn’t said which console sits at the top of that range, so treating 212 GB as your target is the safest bet.

That’s a big chunk of any console’s internal storage. The practical move is to pick which old games you can bear to uninstall now, rather than making that choice at midnight with the download stalled on an error screen.

A pre-load is the whole point of this exercise. You download the game files ahead of launch, so the game is ready to play when it unlocks and your evening isn’t eaten by a progress bar. With a file this size, starting on the first possible hour of 10 November is the smart play.

Rockstar has a step-by-step guide on the Rockstar Support pre-load page, covering how to pre-load on both consoles. Bookmark it before Monday night.

Buying a Box? Read This First

Prefer a physical copy on the shelf? Rockstar says code-in-box versions for both consoles “should be available from retailers beginning 12 November.” A code-in-box edition is a boxed copy carrying a download code, not a disc.

That matters for planning, because you’ll still be downloading the game, only starting two days after digital buyers. If day-one play is the goal, the box route gives you less of a head start, so clear that storage early regardless of how you buy.

The Free Poster and Leonida Map

On 19 November, Rockstar will add an official printable Grand Theft Auto VI cover art poster and map of Leonida to the game’s official site as a free digital download. Leonida is the game’s fictional state, home to Vice City.

There’s a physical option for collectors too. Rockstar says a double-sided printed version will go on sale “shortly after launch” at the Rockstar Store for $0.99 on its own, or come as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase. Pairing it with another order is the obvious way to get it, since the gift option makes the poster cost nothing.

A map on the wall is a lovely touch for a game this many people have waited for since its reveal.

Fill the Wait Wisely

Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI site carries plenty to keep the wait busy while that 212 GB downloads. The An Extended Look video sits there alongside the other official clips, and it’s the best preview of what you’re making room for.

The Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album page carries in-game radio station previews and singles. Our GTA VI radio guide breaks down the stations if you want a cheat sheet. For world-building, the Only in Leonida section explores Vice City and beyond. Rockstar’s site lists the Ultimate Edition details as well, for anyone still deciding which version to buy.
