Ensaymada Boxes and a Postcard Sleeve: Café Mary Grace’s First Singapore Christmas

Café Mary Grace, the Filipino bakery-café that, by its own account, opened its first home outside the Philippines on Tras Street in March 2026, is running its first Christmas menu in Singapore from 3 November to 31 December 2026. If your gift list is already stressing you out, it’s worth a look: boxed buns that Filipino families have traded for years, two mint-chocolate bakes made only for Singapore, and a delivery deal that rewards anyone who orders in November.

Christmas Starts in September There

The Ber months (the run of months whose names end in “-ber”) arrive along with Christmas songs and twinkling lights.

Gifting is where that tradition becomes something you can hold. According to Café Mary Grace, handing out boxes of Ensaymadas and Cheese Rolls at Christmas has long been an expression of affection and generosity back home. That’s the idea worth borrowing here, because a box of buns is easier to deliver to five aunties than a curated hamper ever will be!

The Box Doubles as the Card

The two classics are the Mary Grace Ensaymadas and the Mary Grace Cheese Rolls, each in a box of six. The ensaymadas are soft, buttery buns topped with Queso de Bola, an aged Edam cheese, while the cheese rolls come filled with a velvety cheese, so the boxes cover both the sweet tooth and the savoury crowd.

The clever part is the wrapping. The café worked with young artist Clarissa Netania (@life.isa.art) on a Christmas sleeve printed with her original watercolour of the café’s storefront, and that sleeve doubles as a postcard for writing a message. It’s the same artist credited on the festive dine-in menu, which gives the whole season a matching look. For anyone who forgets cards until the last minute, that sleeve solves the problem neatly.

Mint Is the Singapore Twist

Two gift items exist only in Singapore: the Mint Chocolate Lengua Thins and the Mint Chocolate Brownies at S$23.60 for a tin of four. The café calls them a “refreshing minty twist” on bakes its fans already know.

Of the pair, the brownie tin is the smart buy for an office Secret Santa. It sits under S$25 before the 9% GST, it comes ready-packed, and four brownies are enough to share without anyone fighting over the last piece.

The Lengua Thins jar works better as a host gift, since a jar on a dinner table gets opened and passed around. Pair either one with a postcard sleeve and you’re done shopping for that person.

The mint carries into the drinks menu, with a Peppermint Hot Chocolate and a Peppermint Mocha (hot or iced).

Two Bakes You Can’t Take Home

According to the café, two festive versions of its classics are made for dine-in guests only. The Merry Berries & Brie Ensaymada piles brie, dried cranberries and apricots, and toasted pecans onto the ensaymada with a berry compote. The Apple Cinnamon Cheese Roll stuffs a cheese roll with cinnamon-spiced apple and tops it with buttery crumble and milk chocolate curls.

Both are marked as Founder’s Picks on the menu. The brie ensaymada is the one to sit down for, because it turns a bun Filipinos grew up with into something that only exists at this table for eight weeks.

Lunch Gets the Dinner Dishes

The savoury side runs from 12pm, per the café. The most Filipino plate on it is the Longganisa Meatball Linguine (S$24.50), which turns longganisa, a garlicky Filipino sausage, into homemade pork meatballs in tomato and herb sauce. Other options include Chorizo Tapas (S$17.50), a Mary Grace Beef Stew (S$39.80) of beef cheek the café says is slow-cooked for 12 hours, and an Oven-Baked Lemon Butter Cod (S$35.50).

The café’s usual dinner dishes, Gambas al Ajillo (S$19), Rib-Eye Salpicao (S$35.50) and Spicy Lemon Scampi Linguine (S$27.50), are available from 12pm through the festive season as well. That’s handy for a weekday team lunch in Tanjong Pagar that feels like a proper occasion.

A Fruit Cake With a Backstory

The Classic Fruit Cake is the one with history attached. According to the café, the recipe dates back to 1983 and was founder Mary Grace Dimacali’s very first creation, long before there was a café at all.

For a centrepiece, there’s the Banana Caramel Log Cake (S$79.50) with passion fruit compote and hazelnut praline puffed rice, or the Hazelnut Praline Mousse (S$81) hiding a bergamot curd under Guanaja chocolate. If you’re buying one big cake, the fruit cake wins, since it’s the cheapest of the three and the only one that comes with a family story you can retell at dinner.

The petite cakes go playful: a Christmas Mont Blanc shaped like a pinecone, a Vanilla Apple Cheesecake (S$13) with a red bow, and Santa’s Chocolate Raspberry Mousse (S$14) modelled on Santa’s hat.
