If you’ve ever toned yourself down to survive a group project, a team meeting or a comment section, muque‘s new single “いいんじゃない Just As You Are” was written for that feeling. It has been out as a digital single since Tuesday, 20 October 2026, and it’s the theme song for a Japanese drama about an autistic rookie lawyer who wins by staying exactly who she is.
The Japanese title, iinjanai, translates loosely as “isn’t that fine?”, and the whole song hangs on that shrug of acceptance. It’s also the band’s first theme song for a TV drama, which means plenty of people are hearing them for the first time this week.
A Lawyer Who Doesn’t Fake It
The drama is Extraordinary Attorney Minami (南田南弁護士は天才肌), a Japanese remake of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, the 2022 Korean series from ENA that reached viewers around the world through Netflix. Mana Ashida stars as Minami Nanda, a rookie lawyer on the autism spectrum who takes on difficult cases using her own way of seeing things and sudden flashes of insight.
It premiered on Monday, 19 October 2026 on Kansai TV and Fuji TV. Japanese reports describe how Ashida chose to play Minami as someone who finds eye contact difficult, and early viewer reactions have praised the detail in her eye movements and gestures.
Like the Korean original, the remake keeps its lead a high achiever: Minami graduated top of her class and topped the bar exam. That’s exactly why the song works so well alongside it, because its message never depends on being brilliant. You don’t need a perfect score to deserve a place in the room, and the lyrics say so plainly.
What the Song Sounds Like
muque wrote the track with Minami’s journey in mind, focusing on the struggle of finding your place while you work out how to deal with other people. Speaking to Japanese music site Natalie, the band described how people come to understand themselves gradually, through relationships, getting hurt and being cared for.
The hook lands on a line that translates roughly as “you’re you, so isn’t that fine?” Later, the song tells you that when you fall, it’s okay to set your load down and cry, which is the kind of permission most of us rarely give ourselves on a bad Tuesday.
Musically, it’s a polished, melodic pop number with horns lifting the chorus. Japanese music site SPICE called it a catchy example of muque-style J-pop that keeps the band’s identity while widening its palette, and suggested it could bring them a bigger audience. The drama’s producer, Haruka Kato, told The First Times that it works as a “support song” for Minami and, potentially, for viewers who adopt it as their own anthem. That’s a fair read, and it’s easy to picture this one on a lot of commute playlists by November!
According to the band’s release, the single grew out of trial and error across a wide range of musical styles, and it represents the culmination of their approach to J-pop so far. The result sounds accessible without sanding off what makes them distinct.
Meet the Fukuoka Three-Piece
muque formed in May 2022 in Fukuoka, and the line-up is Asakura on vocals and guitar, takachi on drums and track-making, and Kenichi on guitar. Their songs mostly start with takachi, who builds and arranges the tracks, before Asakura shapes them with her melodies and lyrics.

The pairing is the interesting part. takachi pulls from global sounds well beyond the US and UK, including Asian beats, while Asakura writes melodies with a subtle traditional Japanese flavour. Her emotional vocal delivery is what glues the two worlds together.
If the name looks unfamiliar, it’s a blend of musique (French for music) and muku (Japanese for pure or innocent). The idea is “untainted music”, meaning the band chase the sound they want instead of whatever is trending.
They’re far from newcomers, either. Their catalogue runs through the full album Dungeon, the EP DOPE! and singles like “bestie”, and they’ve already recorded an ending theme for the ONE PIECE Egghead arc. Their MUQUE TOUR 2025 “RIDE ON!” show at Zepp Shinjuku on 31 July 2025 sold out, so the drama is more of a new front door than a debut.
Same Girl, New Puppet
Illustrator HIZGI, who drew the cover for muque’s previous single “たりない Still Not Enough”, returns for this one. The blue-haired girl from that cover is back, and this time she’s wearing a puppet of a father cat on her hand.

The artwork works in motifs from the drama’s world while continuing the character’s story from the last release. Watching one illustrated girl recur from single to single gives fans a small storyline to follow between songs, and that sort of running thread is half the fun of following a band closely.
Where to Listen and Watch
The single is available on streaming and download services through muque’s official listening page. It’s a digital release with no physical CD announced.
For the drama, Japanese listings say each episode goes up on Netflix right after its Japanese broadcast, so it’s worth searching for Extraordinary Attorney Minami in your app. Viewers in Japan can catch up on TVer and Kansai TV’s own on-demand service.
Next up for the band is their fifth anniversary. muque kicks it off with “SAVE POINT” on Friday, 5 February 2027 at KT Zepp Yokohama in Kanagawa. For a band with an album called Dungeon and a single called “Level up”, naming the milestone show after a game checkpoint feels very on brand.
