Classic Terry and Mai Are Back for US$2.99 Each, with a Switch 2 Catch

If you’ve been waiting to put Terry Bogard back in his red cap, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves has been selling his classic costume, alongside one for Mai Shiranui, since 22 October 2026 at US$2.99 each. Players on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam or the Epic Games Store can buy both costumes from 22 October 2026, with prices and release times varying by storefront, but Switch 2 owners who missed the digital preorder will wait until January for Mai.

Meet the Wolf and the Ninja

For anyone new to the series, Terry Bogard is the hero SNK calls the Hungry Wolf and the face of the Fatal Fury franchise. In City of the Wolves and its predecessor, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, he wears a leather aviator jacket and shorter hair. The new costume swaps that for his old red cap and vest, and the US PlayStation Store lists it as “FATAL FURY 2: TERRY”, a nod to the look he wore in that 1992-era sequel.

Mai Shiranui is the heir to the Shiranui ninjutsu style. In City of the Wolves she fights in sleek riding leathers, so her classic costume brings back the traditional kunoichi (female ninja) outfit longtime fans will remember.

SNK pitches both as a nod to the series’ history, with the original designs rebuilt to match the newer game’s visuals. Neither costume adds moves or characters, so this is purely about looks. If you’re buying one, make it Terry’s, because that cap is the image people picture when they hear Fatal Fury!

Mai’s Switch 2 Detour

This is where the plan gets complicated. On Nintendo Switch 2, SNK lists three routes to Mai’s classic costume: a bonus for preordering the digital version, an early purchase bonus with the physical Starter Edition, and a standalone paid download.

The Switch 2 version went on sale digitally on 22 October 2026, so the preorder route has now closed. SNK plans to release both the physical Starter Edition and the standalone Mai download on 21 January 2027, and those dates could still shift. In practice, a Switch 2 player who bought the game this week without preordering is now behind PlayStation and PC players for the same US$2.99 outfit.

It’s an easy thing to grumble about, and the frustration makes sense. Preorder bonuses that later turn into paid DLC (downloadable content) are a familiar pattern, and few players enjoy being told the earliest way in was to commit before launch.

Is US$2.99 a Fair Price?

Measured against the rest of the game’s shop, the costumes sit at the cheap end. Individual DLC fighters such as Andy Bogard, Chun-Li and Blue Mary cost US$4.99 each. Grab both classic costumes and you’ve spent more than one fighter would cost, which feels steep for a pair of skins.

For PlayStation, Xbox and PC players, the Revenge Edition (base game plus Season Passes 1 to 3) costs US$49.99. Switch 2 owners come out ahead on the base package, since the digital Starter Edition bundles the same three season passes for US$29.99. That US$20 gap goes a long way toward softening the Mai delay.

SNK notes that prices can vary by storefront, so check your local store for the Singapore figure before checking out.

What Players Are Saying

Early reaction has leaned warm. EventHubs framed the news as a win because Mai’s outfit, once tied to the Switch 2 preorder, became something anyone could buy. LEVEL UP called it one of the most requested additions and read the move as SNK listening to fans.

JCR Comic Arts flagged the Switch 2 timing split as the sore point, and that’s where most of the complaining lands. Paying a few dollars for nostalgia isn’t the issue; the gripe is that the platform you play on decides when you get it.

More Fighters on the Way

The costumes arrived alongside a busy Season 3. Mikey and Draken from Tokyo Revengers were slated for the same 22 October date, as we covered when the Tokyo Revengers crossover was announced. SNK’s schedule then lists Laocorn in November and Reina in December 2026, though it says those dates can change without notice.

Terry and Mai’s classic looks are back in City of the Wolves for US$2.99 each, with a Switch 2 wait

Two classic looks at US$2.99 each is a cheap trip back to the arcade, and for PlayStation, Xbox and PC players it’s a straightforward buy today. Switch 2 owners have a January date to mark instead, but they’re already playing on the cheapest full package in the lineup, which is a fair trade for a short wait.
