On Wednesday, 28 October 2026, two celebrated names from Mexico’s cocktail scene take over Bar Somma at New Bahru for one night, pouring eight cocktails at S$22 each.
The night is the Day of the Dead edition of The Guest List, Bar Somma’s series of guest shifts by bars from around the world. Mexico City’s Licorería Limantour and Guadalajara’s El Gallo Altanero are taking the counter, with live mariachi, Calavera face painting and Mexican menu specials alongside the drinks.

Who’s Flying in From Mexico
From Limantour comes José Luis León, its Head Bartender. The bar celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and José Luis has been part of Limantour since its beginnings.
El Gallo Altanero sends its founder, Freddy Andreasson, who built the Guadalajara bar around agave spirits and independent tequila producers from Jalisco. The sender says El Gallo Altanero was recently ranked No. 28 on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2026 list.
2 Bars, S$22 Each
Each bar brings four cocktails:

| Licorería Limantour | El Gallo Altanero |
|---|---|
| Niguri Sour | Guayabas |
| Margarita Al Pastor | Nopalli Sour |
| Oregano | Fandango Colima |
| A Random Whiskey Sour | Mango Martini |
Bar Somma’s own menu has a “Savoury” chapter, including an Amatriciana made with guanciale-infused vodka and tomato.
For comparison, Bar Somma’s regular signatures include The Witch Daiquiri and Rum Happiness at S$22 and Mirko’s Martini at S$32, and the bar charged S$20 per cocktail at its last Guest List night.
Mariachi and Calavera Face Paint
Day of the Dead is Mexico’s celebration of loved ones who have passed. Bar Somma is leaning into that with live mariachi and Calavera face painting, the skull-style designs closely tied to the holiday. The Mexican menu specials round out the night.

Bar Somma is a library-turned-cocktail bar at New Bahru with Italian-inspired drinks and food.
Your Host Behind the Counter
Hosting the visitors is Bar Manager Mel Chavez, a Manila-born bartender with close to 20 years of experience. He began with flair bartending at 18, then moved to Singapore, where his bio credits him with a key part in the success of Tippling Club and Smoke & Mirrors. The latter made the 51 to 100 extension of Asia’s 50 Best Bars. He is the champion of Woodford Reserve’s The Wonderful Race 2025.

The Guest List has run before. Manila’s ReCraft took over the counter for one night on 11 June 2026, as part of Singapore Cocktail Crossover (SGCX), with guest cocktails at S$20.
