Spend S$250, Get a Butterbear Blind Box: orchardgateway’s Takeover Runs to 18 October

If you missed a ticket to the sold-out Butterbear Happy Walk, orchardgateway still gives you a few good reasons to head to Somerset before 18 October 2026. The mall’s Butterbear takeover is handing out spend-based rewards, including a blind box of eco bags and charms, and its giant inflatables stay up for photos until 1 November 2026.

Who Is Butterbear, Anyway?

Butterbear, also known as Nong Noey, is a cartoon bear whose wardrobe runs from pink outfits to frilly blue skirts. Fans in Singapore have mostly met her through brand tie-ins rather than her own events. From 15 October 2025, KFC Singapore carried Butterbear merchandise at selected outlets, including a delivery-only 8-bit design of the bear hugging a chicken bucket.

This year, ZUS Coffee dressed its outlets across Malaysia and Singapore in Butterbear decorations and sold a furry cup sleeve and a hoodie blanket. orchardgateway announced its own campaign on 25 September 2026, and the mall describes it as the first time a shopping mall in Singapore has hosted campaigns featuring Butterbear. For fans, that means trading a single café counter for an entire building to hunt through!

The Walk Sold Out, the Mall Didn’t

According to the mall, thousands of Happy Walk participants will stroll from Fort Canning Park to orchardgateway, where a set of one-day-only games waits for finishers.

The pick of the bunch is Nong Geng Ji’s Giant Chopsticks Challenge, where walkers fish fruit and vegetable props out of a ball pool, which sounds like the best possible test of whether your kopitiam (coffee shop) chopstick skills survive a morning of walking. CHAGEE runs a ‘Smell & Guess the Tea’ challenge, while Hands on Klay asks players to recreate a hidden arrangement of five items for a shot at prizes.

Walkers can pick up a Game Card at any participating store and earn a stamp for each activity they complete. Three stamps unlock an exclusive Butterbear sticker sheet at the Lucky Draw Booth at B1, in front of Scarlett (#B1-03). Both the cards and the sheets go out first come, first served, so anyone lingering too long at the finish-line photo spots risks walking away with an empty card.

The in-mall Butterbear Happy Quest, a 10-checkpoint hunt guided by a digital map, ran from 26 September to 9 October 2026. Its prizes were claimed during Race Pack Collection on 9 and 10 October, so that chapter is closed.

What Non-Walkers Can Still Grab

Here’s the part open to everyone. Until 18 October 2026, shoppers who spend a minimum of S$120 at orchardgateway can redeem a S$10 voucher and a one-hour free parking coupon. Spend at least S$250 and you redeem a Butterbear Blind Box on top of that, containing one of four eco bag and charm designs.

The blind box is more of a gamble.

orchardgateway’s blind box asks for nearly double that, so it makes the most sense for shoppers who can split the bill with a friend or who already spend heavily at the mall’s tenants.

Where to Take the Photo

The mall says it has installed a 4-metre-high inflatable at the Plaza and a 2-metre-high inflatable in front of Jian Cha at B1. Festive flags hang along the Beam walkway, while banners decorate the Tube (the glass bridge linking both sides of Orchard Road) and the Level 1 Runway.

Head for the Plaza first, because a 4-metre bear is the frame people will recognise on their feeds. Better still, the inflatables outlast the campaign itself, staying up until 1 November 2026, so a quieter weekday visit after the walk crowds disperse is a smart move.

Why Malls Keep Doing This

Butterbear is arriving in a city that has spent all of 2026 getting used to character takeovers. POP MART staged its resort-wide Golden Gallop activation across Resorts World Sentosa from 16 January to 15 March 2026, and MINISO brought a One Piece tour to Suntec City from 4 to 26 July. Next up, a POP LAND pop-up lands at Bugis+ from 15 to 26 October 2026, overlapping neatly with Butterbear’s final week.

The formula behind them barely changes: something big to photograph, a mechanic that walks you past a dozen shopfronts, and a collectible that runs out. The Happy Quest’s 10 checkpoints made that logic plain, since every stop doubled as a reason to step into a store.

Hype can cool quickly, though. The Business Times reported that Labubu was Singapore’s most-searched keyword in Carousell’s toys-and-games category in Q4 2024 and Q1 2025, before sliding to 47th in Q2 2025, 57th in Q3, and out of the top 100 by Q4. That’s the honest case for visiting now: these moments are built to be brief, and the bear won’t wait for you.
