High Intensity Ice Cream Training: Sentosa’s Free 8-Zone Beach Workout Opens 24 October

Your next beach day at Palawan Beach comes with monkey bars, battle ropes and an ice cream waiting at the end. From 24 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, HIIT THE BEACH turns the sand beside the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia into a free, eight-zone workout circuit. Each zone is themed on an ice cream most of us grew up pulling out of the freezer at the mama shop (a neighbourhood provision store).

It’s run by The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC), the Amsterdam-headquartered business behind Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, Wall’s, Cornetto and Calippo, together with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC). HIIT usually stands for high-intensity interval training, but here the organisers have renamed it High Intensity Ice Cream Training.

The Eight Zones, in Order

The circuit runs through eight zones, each named after an ice cream.

1. Cornetto Classic Climb: Swing from bar to bar without letting your feet touch the sand.
2. Cone-quer the Balance Bars: Shimmy along using only your hands.
3. Ben & Jerry’s Pint Jumps: Three jumps over pints of different heights, with an optional burpee before each one.
4. Paddle Pop Battle Ropes: Whip the ropes into waves for a minute or longer.
5. Calippo Cooler Press: Push ice cream-shaped weights overhead for ten reps each, with each weight heavier than the last.
6. Over-scooped & Under-scooped: An obstacle run where you climb over the high scoops and crawl under the low ones.
7. Magnum BonBon Puller: Haul a weighted Magnum pint sled towards you with a rope.
8. Magnum BonBon Pusher: Drive that pint all the way to the finish line.

Our Pick of Three Zones

If you can only give the circuit one lap, these are the three zones we’d put the most energy into.

Ben & Jerry’s Pint Jumps. In our view, this zone scales better than anything else on the sand. A casual visitor can hop the three heights, while a gym regular can add burpees and turn it into a contest with friends. We suspect it’s where most “bet you can’t do that” challenges will start.

Magnum BonBon Pusher. Save your legs for this one. In our experience, sled pushes are usually something you find inside a gym, so finishing a free circuit on one feels like a novelty. Pushing a giant pint across the finish line is also, we think, the clip most people will want to film.

Cornetto Classic Climb. Monkey bars feel like a primary school playground until your grip starts to fade halfway across, and doing them over soft sand adds a little extra challenge.

The Cooldown Isle

Past the finish line, the Cooldown Isle is billed as the spot to kick back with an ice cream after the circuit. It has parasols, seating and a view of the sea, plus larger-than-life ice cream installations and photo spots.

There’s also co-branded TMICC and Sentosa merchandise, including limited-edition pieces made for HIIT THE BEACH and sold on site. Ice cream vending machines around Sentosa let you grab a treat or keepsake while you explore the rest of the island. The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia is a short walk along Palawan Beach, so it’s an easy add-on.

Why It Could Work for Younger Crowds

In our view, working out regularly can cost more than a lot of young people want to spend. A free circuit open to the public removes a common excuse. A free circuit you can drop into with friends, without booking a slot, removes a common excuse. It’s also upfront about the reward: the ice cream is the treat at the end, not a health claim.

TMICC says it’s thinking beyond one beach. “We’re excited to kick off our partnership with Sentosa through HIIT THE BEACH, the first of a series of opportunities to bring our brands, experiences and shared passion for fun to life together,” said Ellen Yap, Country Lead at TMICC.

SDC’s Michael Ma, Assistant Chief Executive of its Business & Digital Technology Group, called it the first instalment of a three-year partnership that will bring “more exciting dopamine experiences and wellness moments” to the island. If you’ve been following Sentosa’s plans for its next 20 years, this fits the island’s push to give locals fresh reasons to cross the causeway.

Before You Go

  • Pick your time: The circuit is outdoors on open sand, so an early morning or late afternoon visit spares you the worst of the midday sun.
  • Check the details: Confirm opening hours and how to get there on Sentosa’s HIIT THE BEACH page.
  • Dress for it: Wear shoes that grip and bring water.
  • Look after your grip: Keep your hands dry for the bars.
  • Pace yourself: Leave some energy for the sleds, since the heaviest work sits right at the end.
  • Want the merch? The limited-edition pieces are sold on site, so go earlier in the run if you’re after one.
