There’s a specific kind of restlessness that hits after a long day out. The group chat has gone quiet, the MRT ride home is 20 minutes of nothing, and scrolling has stopped being fun. That’s the gap Rakuten Kobo is aiming at with September Afterparty, a 10-day campaign running on Kobo’s official store on Lazada Singapore and the Kobo Singapore store. It knocks up to 10% off its colour eReaders, the Kobo Clara Colour to S$234.40 from S$259.90, the Kobo Libra Colour to S$332.20 from S$369.90, and drops a S$40 eBook coupon into every eligible device purchase, including the Kobo Clara BW at S$229.90.
It runs from 21 to 30 September 2026, which gives Singapore readers a little over a week to decide whether they’re the kind of person who finishes books or the kind who buys them.
The S$40 Coupon Is the Real Discount
Look past the device prices for a second. A 10% cut on hardware is pleasant, but the S$40 eBook coupon bundled with every eligible eReader is what changes the maths for anyone building a library from zero. That’s roughly three or four titles, depending on what you’re buying, handed to you before you’ve read a single page.

Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Libra Colour, the two devices carrying a discount this round
Stack it with the other offer and it gets better. First-time eBook buyers get 30% off their first purchase with the code AFTERPARTY30, valid all the way to 31 October 2026. Exclusions apply and it’s first-timers only, so this is aimed squarely at people who have never bought a digital book in their lives.
Three Devices, Three Different Readers
The Kobo Clara Colour is the one most people should look at first. It’s S$234.40 during the campaign, down from S$259.90, with a 6-inch colour E Ink display that renders covers and highlights properly instead of flattening everything into grey. The compact body is the point: it fits the one-handed grip you’re already doing on a crowded train.

Colour E Ink is the upgrade that makes covers, highlights and illustrated pages look like themselves
The Kobo Libra Colour goes to S$332.20 from S$369.90, and it earns the extra hundred dollars in one specific way. The 7-inch colour E Ink display pairs with Kobo Stylus 2 support, so you can annotate directly on the page instead of typing thoughts into your Notes app and never opening them again. Our own Kobo Libra Colour review came from a writer who started out dismissive of e-readers, which is the most useful kind of review to read before spending S$332. The stylus is sold separately, so budget for that if annotating is the whole reason you’re buying.
Then there’s the Kobo Clara BW at S$229.90, which still comes with the S$40 coupon. No colour, no discount off its usual price, but it has the E Ink Carta 1300 HD screen and ComfortLight PRO, which lets you dial brightness and colour temperature down for night reading. If your reading happens entirely in bed at 1am with the lights off, this is the honest pick, and the S$4.50 you save over the Clara Colour is beside the point.
Which one would we actually buy? The Clara Colour, and it isn’t close. S$234.40 with S$40 of books attached means you’re paying under S$200 for the hardware in real terms, and colour is the feature you notice every single time you open the library.
The BookTok Titles Are Here Too
Kobo has picked five titles to go with the campaign, and two of them will be instantly familiar to anyone who has spent time in the book corner of TikTok.

Browsing the library on the Clara Colour, where book covers keep their actual colours
Verity by Colleen Hoover is the one that refuses to leave the charts. Hoover is the American romance and thriller novelist whose books were resurrected by TikTok readers years after publication, and the numbers behind that are not small: Publishers Weekly recorded 312,000 print copies of Verity sold in the first quarter of 2022 alone. A March 2026 #BookTok bestseller listing still had it at No. 6. The story follows writer Lowen Ashleigh, hired to finish an injured author’s bestselling series, who finds a manuscript full of revelations she was never meant to read.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, a neuroscientist-turned-novelist, is the other one. PhD candidate Olive Smith kisses a professor to convince her best friend she’s dating someone, and the fake relationship with Adam Carlsen gets complicated in the way these things always do. It’s the comfort read of the five.

Reading holds up in weather that would end a paperback
The other three go somewhere different. Situated by Angela Duckworth, the psychologist behind Grit, argues that our surroundings and relationships shape behaviour more than we credit, and that changing those conditions is how you change yourself. The Lunch Break Investor by Singapore’s Thomas Chua is built for people who want to understand businesses and build a long-term portfolio without quitting their job to do it, which is a very specific and very local kind of useful. The Courage to Be Ordinary by Ichiro Kishimi makes the case for dropping the need to be exceptional, and it’s the one to reach for if your feed has been making you feel behind.
If you’re only spending the S$40 coupon on two books, make them Verity and The Lunch Break Investor. One will keep you up past midnight, the other will make your lunch break useful, and between them you’ve covered both halves of why people buy an eReader in the first place.

An afternoon with the Clara Colour, which is roughly the mood the whole campaign is selling
Ten days is not long, and the coupon is the part that expires with it. If you’ve been circling an eReader since someone on your feed wouldn’t shut up about Verity, this is the window where the device and the first few books land in the same purchase. Start with Verity on Kobo or see whether The Lunch Break Investor fits the way you actually spend your midday hour, and if you’d rather be talked out of the hustle entirely, The Courage to Be Ordinary is right there waiting. Set a reminder for 30 September, because that’s when the S$40 goes away!
