Osaka-based SNK has confirmed Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for Nintendo Switch 2, and the digital version lands on 22 October 2026. Preorder now and Mai Shiranui turns up in her classic outfit. That’s the kind of bonus that gets a fighting game Discord buzzing.
Classic Mai, Preorder Only
SNK calls Mai one of Fatal Fury’s “most beloved and iconic characters”, and this bonus leans hard into that history. The Mai Shiranui classic costume is exclusive to the Switch 2 version and comes with digital preorders placed through Nintendo eShop. According to SNK’s Japanese release, physical buyers can claim it as an early-purchase bonus instead.
Miss the window and the outfit isn’t gone for good. SNK says it may be sold as paid DLC (downloadable content) later, so preordering is the one sure way to get it at no extra cost.
Reactions have split along familiar lines. Longtime SNK fans are welcoming back what many of them see as the Mai look. Meanwhile, one Spanish-language analysis video has branded the outfit polémico (controversial). The fan service debate has followed fighting games for years, and a new console won’t settle it. Either way, people are talking about Mai again, which is precisely what a preorder bonus is for.

Two Editions, One Easy Pick
There are two ways into South Town, the game’s fictional city, on Switch 2. The Standard Edition costs US$19.99 (€19.99) and contains the base game only. The Starter Edition runs US$29.99 (€29.99) and bundles that base game with Season Passes 1, 2, and 3.
Do the maths on that extra US$10. It buys 17 named DLC fighters plus a Season 3 slot still marked “???”, which makes the Starter Edition the obvious call for anyone new to the game. Across Asia, the two editions list at HK$139 and HK$209 in Hong Kong, NT$556 and NT$832 in Taiwan, and ¥2,970 and ¥3,960 (tax included) in Japan.
Three Kens Walk Into South Town
This is where the Starter Edition earns its keep. Season Pass 1 brings Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, Mr. Big, and Capcom’s Street Fighter pair, Ken and Chun-Li. Season Pass 2 adds Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, Mr. Karate, and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.
Season Pass 3 steals the spotlight. Rick Strowd, Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, and Laocorn arrive alongside Manjiro “Mikey” Sano and Ken “Draken” Ryuguji from the anime Tokyo Revengers, with one last fighter still under wraps. Tally it up and the bundle holds three Kens: Capcom’s, Kenshiro, and Draken. South Town is going to need name tags.
The timing favours Switch 2 players. A separate SNK announcement confirms that Mikey and Draken launch on 22 October 2026, the same day as the port. It’s the first time the game has released two DLC characters at once. The Japanese release adds that Season 3 will bring new stages and in-game content every month, so day-one Switch 2 players start on level footing.
One Button, Full Combos
Fighting games have a reputation for scaring off beginners, and City of the Wolves answers that with two control schemes. Smart Style turns special moves and combos into simple button inputs, so a newcomer can land something flashy in their first match. Arcade Style keeps the traditional inputs that series veterans know by heart.
Beyond the controls, there’s Episodes of South Town (EOST), a single-player RPG (role-playing game) mode, plus SNK’s new REV battle system. Online, the game runs on cross-platform play and rollback netcode, which keeps matches responsive when a connection wobbles.

Then there’s the Switch 2 advantage. The port runs in handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, with one or two players locally and up to 12 online. Prop it up on a kopitiam table (a neighbourhood coffee shop, for readers outside Singapore) and that lunch-break grudge match sorts itself out.
The audience is there. The Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units in the four days after its 5 June 2025 launch, and it had reached 19.86 million by 31 March 2026. That’s quick for a console Nintendo only fully revealed in April 2025, and it explains why SNK wants a piece of it.
Physical Fans, Mark January
Prefer a box on the shelf? The Starter Edition gets a physical release on 21 January 2027, with preorders opening soon at participating retailers. Outside Japan, pricing for the boxed version is still to be announced.
Japan has its numbers locked in. The physical Starter Edition there costs ¥4,950. A limited special edition at ¥9,900 packs extras such as a dedicated storage box, a B6-size acrylic panel, and a muffler towel.

Worth the Preorder?
For returning fans, the value case writes itself. US$29.99 covers the full three-season roster and a fighter that fits in a bag. Preorder it and you get an outfit that may cost extra later. Newcomers get Smart Style as a safety net, which kills the old “Will I ever learn these inputs?” excuse.
One practical tip before heading out: SNK notes that an internet connection is needed to access all content, so sort out downloads on home Wi-Fi first. After that, the fight goes wherever the Switch 2 does.
