Ten years in. You know how they take their coffee, which of their friends they secretly find annoying, and exactly what their face does before bad news. You trust them more than anyone alive. And somewhere in the last year or two, your heart stopped doing the thing it used to do when they walked into a room.
That’s the opening premise of A Love Other Than Yours, and it’s a rough one to sit with.
The Prime Video romantic series lands on 12 September 2026 in more than 240 countries and territories, and it is not interested in the meet-cute. It starts where most K-dramas roll credits: a decade in, at the exact point where comfort and love have become hard to tell apart.
The Setup: Marriage or Goodbye
Namgung Ho (Seo Kangjun) is an assistant manager at Hunmin Snacks, the kind of guy who wins a room over in about four minutes. After ten years with Lee Mi-do, he thinks marriage is simply what comes next. Obvious. Settled.
Mi-do (Ahn Eun-jin) is a rookie film director who was once called promising, and who is now deep in a rough patch professionally. During that stretch, her heart gets pulled toward someone else.
So the couple arrives at the question the title is already whispering: do they walk into marriage, or finally choose a love other than each other’s? No villain, no dramatic betrayal montage. Just two people who ran out of certainty at the same time.
Seo Kangjun Plays It All in the Eyes
Seo comes into this fresh off the Grand Prize at the 2025 MBC Drama Awards for Undercover High School, which is about as strong a run as a lead can be on.
What sold him on the script was how little of it happens out loud. “What I found especially compelling was that the characters’ emotions were not always expressed directly through dialogue,” he said at the press conference. “I felt this would be a fascinating project where feelings could be conveyed through the eyes, actions and subtle nuances.”
He described Ho as feeling “like a real person,” full of contradictions. That’s the honest version of a leading man: not designed to be swooned over, just recognisable.
Ahn Eun-jin Refuses to Make Mi-do a Villain
Here’s where the show could have gone lazy, and didn’t.
Ahn knows exactly what the audience will throw at her character. How can Mi-do waver when she has someone like Ho? “I think many people will be curious about that,” she said. “But once you watch the series, you will understand the difficult period that Ho and Mi-do are going through.”
She described Mi-do as someone for whom love has become deeply embedded in daily life while the thrill has quietly drained out of it. The story follows what she learns about life, love and herself as she starts making hard choices. Not a trial. A process.
That framing matters. A drama that lets a woman be confused without immediately branding her is doing something most romance writing still fumbles.
Ten Years, Performed From Scene One
Playing new love is easy. Playing a couple who already know each other’s silences is the hard part, and both leads had to get there from the first day on set.
“They are a couple who are already comfortable with each other and are going through a period of weariness,” Ahn said, adding that viewers will feel the “10-year experience” between the two characters.
Seo returned the compliment with interest. Once filming started, he said he could read Mi-do’s emotions just from Ahn’s eyes. “She was completely Mi-do. I felt I only needed to receive what this wonderful actor had prepared.”
That’s the whole show in one line, honestly. Two people reading each other perfectly, and still ending up lost.
The Two People Who Complicate Everything
Lee Joo Ahn plays Han Tae-seung, an ambitious attorney at Jaekang Law Firm, and he’s the reason Mi-do’s world tilts. Tae-seung sees a part of her nobody else has noticed. Seo described him as someone who fills a void Ho has not managed to fill, which makes him both dangerous and irresistible.
Lee admitted the character didn’t click for him at first. “When I first read the script, I couldn’t fully understand Tae-seung. But that made me even more curious. I wanted to understand him, and by the middle of the script, I was so immersed in him that filming became incredibly enjoyable.”
Jo Aram plays Park Su-a, an employee at Hunmin Snacks who is honest, resilient and direct about what she feels. Jo called Su-a’s sincerity her biggest charm: even when love hurts, Su-a doesn’t sit in it, she says the thing out loud. Su-a is drawn to Ho’s warmth, and Seo described their dynamic as one built on stability and support.
Four people, four different ideas of what love is supposed to feel like. That’s the engine.
The Director’s Bet on Small Faces
Hwang Seung-ki was nervous about the premise at first, and said so.
“At first, I was worried because a 10-year relationship is not a universal experience,” he said. “But while reading the script, I realised the focus is not simply on long-term relationships. It looks at the feelings people experience in moments of love as if under a microscope.”
He widened the frame past romance to family, colleagues and friendships. And when asked what viewers should actually watch for, he pointed at the cast’s faces. “There were moments when I was surprised, moved and even awed by their expressions,” Hwang said, explaining that he shaped the direction around making those emotions as clear as possible.
That’s a real choice. In a genre where the loudest twist usually wins, betting the whole thing on a held look is either brave or reckless. On the evidence of these two leads, brave.
Why This One Lands Different
Most romance asks whether two people will get together. This one asks whether two people who already did should stay, which is a far less comfortable question and a much more common one.
Anyone who has been in something long enough to stop counting anniversaries knows the specific dread of wondering whether what they have is love or just the path of least resistance. Nobody says it out loud. A drama that spends 14 episodes saying it out loud is worth the watchlist slot.
