Asia Square has a new bakery, and judging by the bustling weekday lunch crowd I walked into, the CBD clearly has received the memo.
MIMMO Bakery Singapore has officially opened its first permanent Singapore outlet at Asia Square Tower 1, bringing together European pastry traditions, Hong Kong-inspired flavours and the kind of lunch options that make office workers conveniently “forget” their reports due today.
It follows the brand’s Hong Kong pop-up success and is led by Chef Domenico “Dom” Giammarella, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef whose background spans Canada, France, Italy and Hong Kong. That mix forms MIMMO’s “Four Hearts Into One” philosophy, which sounds very poetic until you realise the more immediate translation is: yes, there will be very serious baked goods only for serious baked good aficionados involved.
This CBD Bakery Isn’t Just For The CBD Crowd
When I dropped by, the place started with a fairly normal crowd before lunch hour did what lunch hour does best: fill seats, form queues and remind everyone that Singaporeans can smell a new food spot even from several office towers away.
The seating was packed, the pastry counter constantly kept busy and the whole space gave the promise that quick lunches still can be classy too.
Initially, I assumed this would be a weekday CBD darling and a weekend ghost town. Apparently, not quite. We were told weekends still draw crowds too, with more tourists, Marina Bay wanderers and people exploring the area instead of office workers looking for a lunch fix. So while the current menu feels built for the weekday crowd, don’t be surprised if weekend specials start making their way in later *wink*.
The Egg Tart Is The Headliner, And For Good Reason
The bestseller here is the Egg Tart, and yes, you can taste the care and attention Chef Dom has for each and every one of them.
At first glance, I thought the icing sugar was already pushing the dessert agenda pretty confidently. Then came the apricot gel, because subtlety had left the building for a coffee break.
But colour me surprised, because it works.
The tart itself isn’t overly sweet, and that’s perfect. It’s fluffy, bouncy, and properly eggy in the best way, so the sweetness on top doesn’t collapse the whole thing into sugar chaos. Instead, it gives the tart that little extra nudge, like someone turning up the volume without blowing out the speaker.
For those who want the sweetness dialled up further, the Tigres, Apple Croissant, Paris-Brest, and especially the Pistachio Bolo Bao are where you should be looking. I love sweet things but even I have my limits, and these are generous enough that you won’t be wondering where the filling went.
Come For The Pasta, Stay For The Pastries
As for the main course, MIMMO isn’t only working the pastry angle.
We had the Strozzapreti alla Gigì, and portion-wise, it was large enough for two people to share comfortably. That makes it a very realistic lunch option, especially if you’re with someone who appreciates good pasta without wanting to struggle through a food coma the second half of the day.
The Italian Club Sandwich was another surprise. Chef Dom somehow made a simple sandwich feel glorious, and the sourdough was good enough that I genuinely wished they sold the bread on its own. The alfalfas were a smart touch too, helping the whole work of art feel lighter even though it’s still very much a proper hearty lunch.
And then, there were the cakes. Or as the obvious joke demands: they take the cake.
From Mango Charlotte to Opera and Matcha Raspberry Cake, MIMMO’s cake selection leans into that polished European bakery feel without making the whole thing intimidating. It still feels like something you can drop by for, not something you need to emotionally prepare for.
So, Should You Go?
YES. Especially if you’re a sweet tooth, a CBD lunch regular, a café hopper or someone who enjoys pastries that look refined but still know how to pack a punch on the sweetness meter.
My advice: go in expecting sweetness, because MIMMO delivers on that. If you’re getting the richer items, maybe pair them with a less sugary drink so your taste buds don’t file an HR complaint midway. But honestly, these treats are worth trying at least once.
MIMMO also has an all-day S$8 set with a selected pastry and beverage, a complimentary loyalty programme, self-pick-up options, and delivery via Foodpanda. So even if you’re not sitting down for a full meal, there are still dangerously convenient ways to get your hands on a pastry or two.
