Cool Off with the Struggles; This is how these new homeowners found their ceiling fan with Point One Technology

“Honestly, one of my biggest fears when it comes to like choosing fans is how low the drop is,” says Evan, who recently had to deal with getting a ceiling fan for his home. His tall height made him especially cautious of fans in other people’s houses, and he did not want that same anxiety plaguing him when he moved into his new home.

There are few milestones in life as significant as getting your first house, and for newlyweds Evan and Nicole, they’ve ticked off a big checkmark when renovation work for their five-room resale flat finished this month.

The basis of Evan and Nicole’s house is Japandi—a theme that fuses the sleekness of Japanese minimalism with the practicality of Scandinavian functionality. With neutral colours and natural materials used throughout the space, stepping into the house elicits a cosy and inviting atmosphere for any visitor. Now, they can truly call it home.

For every new homeowner, the real hurdle is designing it to what you want, and Evan and Nicole’s new home was the culmination of a long process. In total, it took over three months of planning to finalise the design. While areas like the kitchen and living room were among the couple’s priorities, so too was a surprising component: the ceiling fan.

While ceiling fans may be seen as an afterthought, they are an underrated part of the home. Almost everyone has an air-conditioner in their homes—some even have one in each room—but did you know that fans can help superboost your cooling and save you money? You can achieve hybrid cooling by running both the air conditioner and ceiling fan at a lower intensity, which uses less energy than putting your air conditioner at full blast and feels equally as shiok! It’s one of the main reasons why the couple are big fans (pun intended) of ceiling fans.

And given the rising temperatures year-on-year, as well as the fact that their home was located on a lower level, ventilation was an important factor for Evan and Nicole when planning their home.

The problem was, where do they start?

“From the get-go, I actually had a hard time figuring out where the fan placement should be and what kind of fan I’ll be needing…We were also concerned about what kind of fans are out there that actually suit the theme of our house, which is more minimalist, Japandi kind of design.” Evan elaborated.

It isn’t as simple as choosing where to place your ceiling fans and installing them; as both of them discovered, there were many factors that homeowners have to consider, especially with the variety of home setups here in Singapore. For instance, the type of ceiling (like false ceilings) you have may require reinforcement for stability. Fan size is also important to ensure complete coverage. Even the type of fan blade chosen may present a different performance effect for the room. These are just some of the pain points that homeowners go through when choosing ceiling fans for their home.

Evan and Nicole admitted that it took a while to fully understand what was needed for their home, in particular, their guest room. But with the help of Point One Technology, they were able to make a more informed decision.

Specialising in ceiling fans, the locally based Point One Technology focuses on delivering a premium edge for its slate of fans. Their fans are specially designed to be more powerful and functional, giving customers superior airflow performance within their homes. And in speaking to the helpful representatives, Evan and Nicole were educated on what they needed for their specific space.

With regards to Evan and Nicole’s home, after learning the necessary details of the space, Point One Technology helped guide the couple on choosing a suitable ceiling fan from their line of products. To align with their Japandi theme, they wanted a ceiling fan with a subtle design, but that was also multi-functional and powerful enough to ventilate their guest room.

And there was, of course, also the matter of Evan’s particular criteria for the ceiling fan height.

“It makes me feel a bit anxious because sometimes I just subconsciously raise my hand to, like, stretch or whatnot, (and I) get concerned if my fingers will get cut by the blade or something.”

The Blizzard’s minimalist design, functionality, and low drop distance (24cm with the light kit) made this an ideal fan for the couple

In consideration of all of this, Point One Technology recommended the Blizzard for them. The three-blade design, wood grain offering, and screwless exterior provided a nice, flushed minimalist feel that complemented their Japandi-inspired interior design, and it also had lighting functionality and smart-home capabilities integrated. But most importantly for Evan, the Blizzard’s low-profile design ensured that the fan wouldn’t have a long drop height when installed. Needless to say, they were convinced.

Installation of the Blizzard took place two weeks after the order was placed, and luckily, the process wasn’t as complex as choosing the fan. In less than an hour, the ceiling fan was ready to be used!

Evan and Nicole have only just moved into their new home, but they’ve already been loving the experience with their Blizzard ceiling fan. And with this period also bringing the cool air from the rainy season, it has been doubly enjoyable.
