Mix and Match at Mondo with Ice Cream, Cocktails, and More!

A whole new world of possibilities has arrived on Amoy Street with the newly opened Mondo, and unlike any old dessert shop, it’s offering so much more than a simple sweet treat. Named after the Italian word for “world,” this store offers an eclectic mix of gelato and sorbet flavours that are sure to surprise your senses.

Plus, if that wasn’t enough, the self-proclaimed café-bar also serves creatively crafted cocktail and coffee pairings that are guaranteed to complement your choice of frozen delights. So, if you’re unsure of where to start from on this extensive menu, here are some of Mondo’s tastiest highlights!

Gelatos and Sorbets

Now, if you’re a fan of complex food combinations, you’ll love most of the desserts here. From fruity gelato fusions to boozy sorbet blends, all sixteen flavours served at Mondo are pushing the envelope on what dessert can be, so the only way to pick a favourite is to try them all.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t any classics, though—don’t miss their chocolate and matcha!

Though if you had to pick a particular flavour to start from, it would definitely be the Blue Cheese & Candied Pear—a pair that sounds more suited for a charcuterie board than a gelato. Despite its unconventional premise, though, the savouriness of the cheese balances beautifully with the sweetness of the pears, resulting in a gelato that never gets old.

Once you’re done with that, make sure to give the Marsala Wine Poached Figs a try as well. Its rounded richness, born from extensively simmering the fruits in a pot of port, delivers a deep aroma that’ll sit well with even the staunchest of teetotalers. Simply put, go for this if you want a dessert and digestif rolled into one.

As for the sorbet side of things, the Passion Passionfruit cannot be recommended enough. Aside from a name that’s super fun to say, this flavour’s tang bursts with tropical taste, jolting your palate awake, especially if the sugar of everything else has you sluggish. It complements the creamier choices perfectly, so don’t be afraid to add it to your order.

Finally, you can’t go wrong with a bright, bitter, and refreshingly light scoop of Blood Orange & Campari. Regardless of whether it’s in a cup or one of Mondo’s housemade cones, this citrussy creation is sharp in more ways than one, meaning that every bite of its bold body is actually super easy to swallow.

Cocktails and Coffees

But for those who want to sip on said sorbet instead, you can take things up a notch by ordering the Peach Don’t Kill My Vibes cocktail as a float, which brings a whole new dimension to the experience. Think a nutty twist on a Negroni mingling with the tanginess of the blood oranges, and voilà—you’ve got a beverage with a vibe you can feel from two planets away.

I got my drink, I got my music, I would share it, but today, I’m yellin’

And since we’re being a bit sassy with the names, don’t even think about tasting the No Filter Needed without its signature scoop of Banana Salted Caramel atop. With a dark harshness in its taste that’s reminiscent of an espresso martini, it’s no wonder that the lightness of the gelato balances this cocktail so beautifully, making each sip and scoop all the better.

Meanwhile, caffeine lovers can cherish the fact that Mondo also serves speciality brews made with award-winning ONA Coffee roasts. Each cup is carefully crafted to highlight the nuanced profiles of these Canberra-sourced beans, so rest assured that no matter which you choose, be it the classic Flat White or the cheeky Alcoholic Affogato, you’re guaranteed their full flavour.

Finally, if you want a beverage that doesn’t get you blitzed or buzzed or both, you can indulge in the simple pleasures of an Iced Chocolate or Early Grey & Pear Tea—the latter of which thoughtfully repurposes the syrup the candied pears are slow-cooked in.
