Our Re-view of Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie’s New Menu: Here are their sky-high hits!

There’s nothing like food with a view, and Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie is here to deliver. Situated on the seventh floor of Momentus Hotel Alexandra, this restaurant has recently refreshed its dining concept by expanding both its à la carte menu and buffet selections.

Naturally, this made for the perfect excuse to head up and see what the hype was all about, and after an arduous evening of thorough tasting, I’ve finally compiled a shortlist of standouts from their semi-buffet dinner.

So, from the luxurious lobster risotto to the humble ratatouille and everything in between, here’s what sent me to cloud nine at Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie!

Talk about a high-end restaurant

But before we get into the dishes, let’s take a moment to appreciate the setting first, since the rotisserie offers more than just a feast. Inside, the space is a striking blend of styles, where the avant-garde architecture evokes the vibes of a European street, while the lush greenery woven throughout gently reminds you that you’re still in the garden city.

This results in an extravagant dining experience that’s brimming with both visual curiosities and comforts, but speaking of the garden city, I can’t talk about Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie without mentioning the very thing its name alludes to: the chance to admire Singapore’s skyline right from the cosiness of your seat.

From the crowded canopies of Canterbury Park in the east to the bold blocks of the Interlace in the west, it goes without saying that this restaurant offers one of the best panoramic sights in town. But stunning as the sights are, the real highlight awaits on the plates, so let’s get on with it!

À la Carte Menu

Lobster Risotto

Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie Lobster Risotto
The culinary equivalent of two people carrying a group project for five

Let’s dive into the dinner menu’s finest with the Lobster Risotto—a splashy showcase of the most succulent shellfish, served atop one of Italy’s best rice dishes, before being decorated with shio kombu, truffle shavings, and parmesan. It’s certainly an ostentatious creation, but don’t worry—I’ll teach it some humility, albeit with a little praise beforehand.

First, I’ve got to hand it to Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie for their choice of American Lobster. The shellfish’s sweet and firm flesh is the perfect complement to the risotto’s savoury and soft nature, but whilst I can’t guarantee that you’ll get some roe like I did, the eggy surprise inside definitely added a delightful, salty finish.

Meanwhile, the risotto was all that I hoped for and more, with a creamy yet subtle richness that complemented every bite of its al dente grains. Like the lobster, the rice thoroughly impressed me, to the point where I felt like the extra toppings were a bit too overkill.

Of course, the kelp, fungi, and cheese added unique layers of umami to the dish, but with such low thresholds for diminishing returns that they began to taste dreadfully jelak by the tenth bite or so. Ultimately, I believe that the Lobster Risotto should just be that, without any of the extra touches. Sometimes, less is more, capisce?

Japanese Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Striploin

Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie Japanese Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Striploin
Crowned Best Japanese Wagyu for 15 consecutive years, and rightfully so!

But what’s a good surf without some turf? Enter the Japanese Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Striploin, which the restaurant proudly flies in fresh each week, straight from Japan. Famed for its texture, marbling, and overall quality, I obviously had to order my cut medium-rare for maximum juiciness, so don’t blame me if yours didn’t hit the same at another doneness.

Because, wow, this steak hits like an oncoming truck, except that the insurance payout is pure flavour. It’s also incredibly tender, to the point where—if you don’t mind me sounding like every food influencer ever—it practically melts in your mouth. Taste-wise, the closest comparison I can make is butter, but even that understates just how rich this brand of beef truly is.

Honestly, the Wagyu alone would’ve earned the dish a high score, but since Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie didn’t skimp on the sides either, it gets a solid ten out of ten from me. I’m talking about a generous serving of mashed potatoes, a roasted garlic bulb as buttery as the actual cut itself, and even a sweet cherry tomato—oh, my heart just hurts thinking about it.

Buffet

Pumpkin Soup

Luxury in a ladle

And so, after going through the best à la carte options, it’s time we hit the buffet by starting with a warm bowl of Pumpkin Soup. With its liquid-gold looks and an aroma every bit as rich as its appearance, this puréed masterpiece had me planning a second helping even before I took my first sip.

Taste-wise, the dish carried the unmistakable notes of the root vegetable, with subtle hints of spice peppered throughout its full-bodied flavours. At the same time, its texture was smooth and light, with a creaminess that comfortably coated your palate.

Finally, what stood out most about the soup was its balance—neither too sweet nor too salty, striking just the right middle ground to make each spoonful completely satisfying. And while the dish is fine on its own, I recommend pairing it with the rotisserie’s soft and hard mini rolls as well for an extra touch of comfort.

Whole Baked Fish

Make the most out of your meal with one simple trick

Just make sure to leave some space in your stomach for the Whole Baked Fish, because this next highlight is truly fin-tastic. Similar to the meats mentioned earlier, the flesh here falls apart at the slightest pull, while also retaining just enough moisture to keep every flake fresh for a delicate forkful that helps to refresh the palate.

In contrast, the fish’s skin is satisfyingly crisp despite being soaked in the juices of the onions and cherry tomatoes above, giving the fish a subtle sweetness. I only wish the vegetables had been sweated a bit longer to draw out more flavour, but still, their crunchiness paired nicely with everything else anyway.

Altogether, each element of this dish works in tandem to highlight its clean flavours, making it one of the restaurant’s more harmonious picks. Plus, it’s also one of the few proteins in the buffet, so go ahead—pile it high on your plate, especially since its lightness won’t hit you as fast as some of the heavier options, though it might leave your taste buds bored sooner, too.

Ratatouille

Insert Anton Ego flashback scene here

Last but not least, in the spirit of eating your greens (even in a buffet), I’m saving my final spotlight for the Ratatouille. Now, as someone who’s had his fair share of encounters with the classic French dish, I’m all too familiar with the stewed vegetables when they’re cooked by a human chef.

Yet, Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie’s take still managed to surprise me, not because it wasn’t made by a famous rat, but rather because despite its apparent simplicity, each vegetable was bursting with flavour. Perhaps it’s my fault for setting my expectations a little low for the non-meat dishes, but as demonstrated by the toppings on the Wagyu, the fish, and now this whole dish, it’s clear that corners are never cut here.

The tomatoes, the onions, the zucchinis, the eggplants, the bell peppers, and even the small stems of cauliflower—everything was cooked to melted perfection, made soft enough to let the flavours meld beautifully, but still with enough bite to keep the dish texturally interesting. Truly, a meal that tastes infinitely better than it looks.

All in all, my impression of Verandah Rooftop Rotisserie after trying its new menu has, ironically, gone through the roof. Save for a few minor nitpicks, the best of what it has to offer consistently hits the mark, and combined with the inviting dining atmosphere, it’s a reliable choice for a multitude of palates—especially for those with a taste for Western fare.

Of course, these five dishes are just a small glimpse into the sweeping spread of food available both from the à la carte menu and buffet here.
