UA HALO review: I run, but I’m not a runner — and that’s the point!

Under Armour’s new HALO line isn’t trying to win the Olympic trials. It’s built for the rest of us who move on our own terms. That stance was clear from the Singapore invite itself: “no runner label required… come for the run, stay for the beats, brews & vibe.” So let’s take a deep dive into what UA HALO is all about!

Design-wise, HALO is the first UA collection where the double-arch logo is literally part of the structure: acting like a pressure-resistant cradle for balance/stability, paired with HOVR/HOVR+ foam underfoot. In UA’s own words: symmetry, balance, and harmony are the design DNA across all three models (Racer, Runner, Trainer).

I joined the launch run: a 4km easy loop from UA Orchard Central to Hideout Coffee Bar (with EasyPace). If you want to understand HALO’s headspace, that morning summed it up: community first, then coffee.

Meet the three HALOs (in TL;DR)

Meet the three HALOs: HALO Racer, HALO Runner and HALO Trainer!

How the HALO Racer felt on Orchard Road

The Racer surprised me. At a chatty pace down Somerset, the rocker did most of the cadence work while the HOVR+ stayed soft-neutral; once I gently pressed the gas, it pushed back with a polite spring rather than a trampoline bounce. No slips on the tarmac-to-tile transitions. Just an easy, “set-and-forget” ride that I’ve since used for night walks to close my rings.

Here’s the easy loop we took, meant for all who came on launch day!

Fit note: I wore Men’s US 9.5. True-to-size length (no heel lift, no toe-bang), medium forefoot, secure midfoot wrap with no hot spots.

Singapore spotlights: “I run, but I’m not a runner”

UA’s local stories make HALO feel…normal; in the best way!

If you want the brand’s bigger picture: UA frames HALO as a new design language for the everyday athlete, embedding the double-arch for real stability and pairing it with HOVR for energy return.

Why I’m waiting for the HALO Trainer

Most weeks, I’m in the gym more than I’m on the road. For Traditional Strength and the odd powerlifting session, I want ground contact I can trust when I brace. On paper (and now on UA SG), the HALO Trainer gives me that: a lower, steadier base; that structural midfoot cradle; and a snug, seamless upper that doesn’t slosh during lateral work. For all-out maxes, I’d still grab a flat hard-sole lifter, but for squats/presses and short cardio blocks? The Trainer looks dialled. (It also hit UA SG after the Runner/Racer, UA announced it in early August!)

Look at the HALO Trainer’s deep reds!

Prices in Singapore, and who each model is really for

Here’s the useful bit: what to buy, why, and how much!

HALO Racer (S$259)

Buy this if: you jog sometimes or want a shoe that adds a little pop to brisk night walks. The rocker keeps you flowing when you’re not thinking about form, and HOVR+ rewards mini surges.

My take: it’s my “close the rings” shoe that won’t punish the calves the next day.

HALO Runner (S$209)

Buy this if: comfort and subtle stability matter more than speed. It’s the calm, balanced option for easy mileage, commute walks, or days you’re just trying to hit 8–10k steps.

My take: the “don’t overthink it” pick for new runners or return-to-running phases.

HALO Trainer (S$189)

Buy this if: you lift more than you log miles. Grounded base for squats/presses, still cushioned enough for warm-ups and mixed circuits.

My take: the one I’ll actually wear most; fits my week.

(Note: All three are listed now on UA Singapore with their prices pulled from the official SG store pages at the time of writing.)

Final take

HALO won’t turn you into Kipchoge, and that’s exactly why I like it. It’s gear for people with lives: coffee to brew, photos to shoot, friends to meet; plus the occasional run or gym day that keeps you sane. The double-arch identity gives the line a distinct feel underfoot, the three-model ladder makes choosing painless, and the pricing is sensible.

If your week looks like mine—gym-heavy with 5km loops when the city cools off—the HALO Trainer + HALO Racer combo covers almost everything!
