Updated 2 September 2026: Prices and inclusions have changed since launch. In Singapore, Premium Lite now costs S$8.98 a month on the web (was S$7.98) and full Premium S$15.98 (was S$13.98), and since February 2026 Lite includes background play and downloads for most videos. Details are in the FAQ at the end.
Hate seeing ads on YouTube, but are put off by the cost of YouTube Premium? Well, now there is another way to get rid of these pesky pop-ups that interfere with your watching experience. Today in Singapore, there is a new YouTube Premium Lite service being introduced to offer people a more affordable way to enjoy YouTube.
Premium Lite was initially piloted to US users in March this year, before slowly expanding to other pilot countries in Thailand, Germany, and Australia. But now, Singapore gets to join in and enjoy the membership service.
At launch, YouTube Premium cost S$13.98 per month in Singapore (S$15.98 as of September 2026), a price that some may think is prohibitive. With YouTube Premium Lite though, it was available for just S$7.98 per month – nearly half the price of Premium (S$8.98 a month as of September 2026; see the FAQ below).
Premium Lite has been designed specifically for viewers who primarily look for an ad-free watching experience on the platform. Plus, this new membership service works across devices, and that includes phones, laptops, and TVs—so you’ll be able to enjoy videos ad-free in any situation!
However, not all videos will have ad-free viewing. Google notes that ads may still appear on music content and YouTube shorts, as well as when users search or browse the platform.
For ad-free music and music videos on YouTube and YouTube Music, that feature is still only available on YouTube Premium. Offline downloads and background play were also excluded at launch, but YouTube added both to Premium Lite for most videos in February 2026.
As someone who primarily uses YouTube on desktop to watch dog videos, the new YouTube Premium Lite is an intriguing addition that suits my watching habits. If you’re like me, this new membership subscription may also appeal to you.
YouTube Premium Lite is expected to be fully available across Singapore in the coming weeks, so don’t worry if you can’t find it yet! For information on the service and how to apply for it, visit this website.
