Gelato Messina Opens in Singapore: Enjoy 40 flavours and Singapore-exclusive offerings

We have another ice cream brand touching down on our shores, this time coming from Down Under. Cult-favourite Australian gelato chain Gelato Messina opens its doors for the first time in Singapore, ready to serve ice cream lovers right in the city area.

Located at 1 Club Street, you can find Gelato Messina’s 1,350-square-foot scoop shop just a stone’s throw away from the Telok Ayer MRT station at the intersection between Club Street and Cross Street.

As for why the brand has such a cult following, Gelato Messina has been in the business for more than 20 years, and are known for their extensive range of flavour offerings – totalling up to 40.

Though the menu is massive, the franchise does not compromise on quality. In Australia, Gelato Messina grows its own ingredients, owning and operating dairy and hazelnut farms that produce things like Jersey milk and free-range eggs, to honey, hazelnuts and mint—all of which are used in their gelatos.

Particularly for their milk, the herd of over 550 pasture-fed Jersey cows are milked just once a day to ensure that happier cows, producing richer and creamier milk that is higher in fat and protein content. Everything is also made from scratch, including the house-made chocolates and their iconic dulce de leche.

What to expect for the Singapore outlet

Gelato Messina Singapore offers freshly churned gelatos and made from scratch ingredients

Much of what Gelato Messina made great in Australia will also be available here in the Singapore outlet.

The store churns all its gelatos in-house every day, ensuring that every scoop is presented fresh to customers. The ingredients are made from scratch as well, such as the cake and sauce additions that you’ll find inside your gelatos.

Customers will get to pick from a huge selection of flavours too. Gelato Messina Singapore also consists of 40 varying flavours. 35 of these will be core flavours, while the rest are specials dreamed up by Messina’s chefs that change every week (available from Tuesday to Saturday)—giving you more reason to return to the store.

Of the 35 core flavours, Gelato Messina has created five Singapore-exclusive flavours inspired by the flavours and nostalgia of the region. First up is Singapore, How You Durian? – a coconut-based gelato with durian jam and chunks of durian cake swirled inside. Next is Kaya Toast, which is kaya gelato mixed with dehydrated toast and kaya jam. Then there’s Teh Tarik; a rich and creamy milk tea gelato. Meanwhile, Tau Huay is a lightly sweetened tofu gelato. Finally, Yolk’s On You features salted egg yolk gelato churned with gula melaka caramel.

Gelatos can be enjoyed on either cones or cups, with scoops priced at S$7.50 for a Single, S$10 for a Double, and S$12 for a Triple.

As a gelato fan, I’m very much looking forward to trying out what Gelato Messina is serving up. If you’re excited for it like me, you can check out their official website to see the full list of flavours on offer. They also have an Instagram page, which will likely update fans on what their newest specials for the week will be, so be sure to follow!
