If you’re on the lookout for a coffee spot that’s more than just a caffeine fix, Bettr Coffee @ The Foundry might just be your new favourite haunt! Tucked away in Singapore’s Prinsep District, this is the first sit-down location by the impact-driven Bettr Coffee brand since its founding in 2011.
This opening marks a significant milestone in Bettr Coffee’s efforts in combining sustainability, social impact, and seriously good coffee under one roof. So, take a seat, and let me tell you all about it!
Bettr Coffee @ The Foundry
First, let’s talk about the Bettr Coffee space. With a work-friendly setup, a backyard garden, and even pet-friendly spaces, the cafe is a thoughtful addition to Singapore’s social impact hub, The Foundry.
As for the cafe’s menu, it goes beyond your typical flat whites and espressos, offering craft cocktails, natural wines, and small plates – all made with sustainability in mind. Think upcycled ingredients, direct-trade partnerships with farmers, and a respect for provenance. Every sip (and bite) you take here is part of a larger movement towards conscious consumption!
Beyond traditional espresso-based drinks, the cafe’s beverage programme embraces innovation. Take Prefer, their bean-free decaf alternative, for example, made with upcycled bread, soy, and barley. As climate change continues to threaten coffee production, this malty, caffeine-free option is a glimpse into the future of sustainable consumption!
Oh, and did I mention this café’s got a cocktail menu, too? I personally loved the Basil Smash – a fresh, tangy mix of gin, Thai basil, lime, and homebrewed jun. Other highlights include the Bettr Old Fashioned and the Gin & Teanic, the latter of which is infused with lemongrass and rooibos tea for a subtle, aromatic twist!
Wine lovers, you’re not left out! Take your pick(s) from Bettr Coffee’s natural wine selection, crafted with minimal intervention. These bottles are vibrant, unfiltered, and full of life – much like the conversations Bettr Coffee hopes to spark within its walls!
With all this talk about drinks, I must say, one of the highlights of my visit was trying my hand at latte art (emphasis on ‘trying’). Under the guidance of one of the baristas, I attempted to pour a design that vaguely resembled a heart… or a cloud?
Well, my design may have been a little warped, but the coffee itself was beautifully brewed – and I was impressed by how well the steamed milk held its shape!
The cafe’s culinary offerings follow the same ethos, with a focus on small plates that will perfectly complement your drinks. They’re healthier too, with ingredients like herbs from the backyard garden and pesticide-free purees from B Corp-certified Ponthier. It’s clear that Bettr Coffee is committed to transparency and quality!
Need I say anything more to prove that Bettr Coffee @ The Foundry is more than a cafe? It’s truly a movement and a testament to how conscious choices in our daily lives can add up to meaningful change.
