Get your chopsticks ready, because Chingay 2025 has returned! As Singapore marks its 60th birthday, this year’s parade embraces the theme “Joy”, uniting communities through one thing we can all agree on – food.
From humble hawker food to exquisite fine dining, food has always been a universal language that brings people together, and Chingay 2025 is doubling down on this. Expect a majestic Food Wonderland, where joy is dished out in three hearty servings – Family Joy (bonding over meals), Community Joy (sharing stories and cultures), and National Joy (celebrating our achievements). So, let’s dig into this feast for the senses!
What’s on the Menu?
This year, 23 floats are gracing the Chingay parade. including 14 community floats and, for the first time, a 12-metre District-level community float. These vibrant, food-inspired floats beautifully highlight how integral food is to Singapore’s culture and sense of belonging. You’re in for a visual (and cultural!) treat as these delicious delights take the stage.
And what better way to mark Singapore’s milestone than with a SG60 special? Prepare to be wowed by 60 lion dancers performing across a massive four-storey stage, bringing their infectious, piping-hot energy. It’s a tribute to Singapore’s spirit, resilience, and heritage rolled into a resounding show.
Of course, there are many other magnificent performances at Chingay, as always. This year, over 4,000 performers from 150 organisations will come together for a myriad of multicultural performances, clad in their fun costumes.
I especially loved the dumpling outfits worn by some of the performers – they were simply too cute. And I have to give a shout-out to the live band – they really amped up in the excitement in the atmosphere!
For those who love an artistic adventure, be sure to stop by the PAssionArts Street. Located in front of the F1 Pit Building, this area is packed with art installations co-created by residents and local artists. You can get hands-on with participatory art workshops or even leave your mark by penning a message in support of Chingay’s UNESCO nomination. This is a revolutionary moment for Singapore!
As for the parade experience itself, it’s getting a new upgrade with a new layout. Expect to be closer than ever to the action, with eye-catching inflatables and an incredible stage with 76 cubicles. This fresh, immersive experience ensures that every spectator gets a front-row seat to the magic.
Tying it all together is the official theme song, Joy, an anthem that captures the spirit of hope and unity. It reminds us to find happiness even in challenging times, a symbol of the resilience that defines our nation.
Chingay has always been a celebration of community, creativity, and culture, but this year, it’s taken things to the next level. This is one event you won’t regret being a part of – so I hope you’re hungry!
