KOKO Cafe & Patisserie: Your New Spot for Japanese-Inspired Delights in Singapore

Looking for a little bit of tranquillity amidst the hustle-bustle of Singapore? Say KOKO-nnichiwa to KOKO Cafe & Patisserie, a fresh spot for those who live for artisanal coffee, exquisite pastries, and the allure of Japanese charm. The name “KOKO,” derived from the Japanese word for “here” and “happiness,” couldn’t be more fitting for this new space!

Stepping into KOKO is a sigh of relief, with its modern interior’s soft natural hues and calming lighting creating a cocoon of comfort tucked away on Tras Street. So, ready for a serene escape with a side of something delicious? Let’s dive into the menu!

Bites

Yam Mont Blanc – Snow-peaked mountains of happiness

Under the expert hands of Chef Mei Kubota, a skilled Japanese pastry chef, every creation at KOKO Cafe & Patisserie is a celebration of seasonal ingredients and time-honoured techniques. This menu will tempt even the most disciplined taste buds – trust me. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth myself, but even I’m already intrigued!

Let’s start with KOKO’s signature showstopper, the Yam Mont Blanc – a crisp meringue base layered with tangy mixed berry purée and whipped cream, crowned by a swirl of silky yam paste. It’s a delicate thing of beauty that’s almost too pretty to eat (but don’t let that stop you).

Oh – craving something richer? The Okinawan Rum Chocolate Sand lives up to its lavish name. Imagine velvety dark chocolate ganache infused with Japanese rum, paired with hazelnut praline and encased in a salted, buttery biscuit crust. Every morsel is a little work of art!

KOKO - Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry Shortcake – A safe choice, for sure. Never goes wrong!

For those who appreciate the classics, the Strawberry Shortcake won’t let you down. With layers of fluffy vanilla sponge, airy whipped cream, and fresh strawberries, each slice is a splendid harmony of lightness and sweetness. What’s more, it’s available as a whole cake for pre-order (with 72 hours’ notice), perfect if you’ve got celebrations coming up!

If you’re more into fruity desserts – I know I am! – the Apricot Almond Mousse will make your palate sing. From its glossy cacao butter shell to its intricate layers of almond mousse, apricot purée, jam, and sponge, this dessert is all about balance. Fruitiness meets nuttiness, and smooth meets crunchy. What a combo.

And then there’s the Seasonal Fruit Tart, a tribute to the best produce of the season. With a buttery crust, creamy almond and custard filling, and fresh fruit as its headpiece, it’s a scrumptious – and refreshing – celebration of nature’s finest!

KOKO - Doughnuts
We’ve got a whole doughnut party goin’ on here!

Even though KOKO Cafe & Patisserie is the new kid on the block, they’ve won hearts all over with some crowd favourites. Everyone, put your hands together to welcome KOKO’s Doughnuts and Choux Puffs, freshly piped to order.

KOKO’s special secret lies in their hand-kneaded, pumpkin-infused dough. Not only does this clever technique give the doughnuts an irresistibly chewy texture, it also packs them with extra nutrients and vitamins. Light, fluffy, and generously filled, these doughnuts come in decadent flavours like Chocolate Raspberry, Pistachio, and Coffee. The more options, the more excuses to return back for more!

And then there are the choux puffs – small bites of heaven with a crisp, airy shell and satiating custard filling. Flavours range from the original custard cream to the rich dark chocolate whip, to the one I’ve personally got my eyes on – the bittersweet matcha custard. When it comes to matcha, I don’t waste a single crumb!

Beverages

KOKO - Lattes
Now look at those lattes – what a brew-tiful sight!

If you’re going to a café and not getting a drink to pair with your treats, what are you even doing? At KOKO Cafe & Patisserie, the drink menu is here to tantalise your taste buds, just like their other offerings!

Let’s start with the speciality coffee. One standout is the Blue Pea Caramel Latte, a visually striking drink with earthy notes from the blue pea flower and a luscious caramel finish. And as another treat for us matcha lovers – the Rose Matcha blends the elegant, floral notes of rose with the smooth, grassy richness we know so well. Both these drinks make gorgeous additions to your Instagram feed – always a must on cafe-hopping adventures!

Look out, there’s more eye candy coming your way! KOKO’s Float My Milk series is a line of indulgent beverages, with creamy, dreamy milk floats topped with scoops of ice cream. The Kurogoma (Black Sesame) Ice Cream Milk Float offers a nutty, toasty depth of flavour, while the Matcha Ice Cream Milk Float is yet another luxurious delight for matcha purists. Each sip – and spoonful –  is a rewarding feast for the senses!
