Start your engines, everybody! Aliwal Urban Arts Festival (AUAF) is rolling back into town – what a fantastic way to wrap up Singapore Art Week 2025! It’s going to be a super fun day jam-packed with arresting street art, live music, skateboarding – all that jazz.
If I’m being honest, Singapore’s street culture scene doesn’t get nearly enough love and credit for what it’s worth. Especially graffiti! It’s often associated with vandalism, when it’s simply one of many incredible mediums for artistic expression. There’s something so honest and special about seeing an artist pour their personality into a public space, turning blank walls into stories. And events like AUAF celebrate this! If you’re not already a fan, I’m here to get you to hop on board – and maybe even pick up a spray can yourself, amongst other activities! Let’s get into it.
What Can You Expect?
This year, Aliwal Urban Arts Festival is turning heads with something fresh – TAILORED: Bore & Stroke. It’s an exhibition that takes the idea of customisation and shifts it into high gear in the automotive world, delving into the art of making things uniquely yours. Curated by The Block A Creative, it showcases works from creative geniuses like TraseOne, Metamo Industries, and Mad Rat Inc.. Feeling inspired? Join the airbrushing and poster design workshops led by these talented artists. Your inner Picasso shall be awakened!
Stay with me – there’s more. Outside the AAC, watch some of the coolest graffiti artists in action as they transform AAC’s walls into vibrant works of art right before your eyes. Got an itch to have a go yourself? RSCLS’s graffiti try-outs let you leave your mark – literally – on the alley walls. Wanna explore more? D’TOUR by RSCLS takes you on a S$5 walking tour around Kampong Gelam’s enclave through a new pair of eyes.
Meanwhile, over at the Aliwal Carpark, it’s all about skateboarding. If you’re a seasoned skateboarder, don’t be shy – show off your moves! And if you’re a newbie, that shouldn’t stop you. Why not try pulling off some beginner tricks? Gear’s provided, so no excuses!
Be sure to check out the SkateSG competition too, featuring obstacles co-created by the local skate community. And while you’re there, head over to the Creators Marketplace by Suave Cartel Media to shop unique finds at curated booths. Feeling lucky? Take it as a sign to join the raffle and, hopefully, snag some prizes!
Of course, no festival is complete without stellar performances, and AUAF is delivering big-time! Get loose and jam to live DJ sets spun by Red Kite Music, and groove along to energetic dance acts curated by Singaporean dancer Darren Toh – aka “dt”.
