Singapore Comic-Con 2024 (SGCC 2024) just wrapped up, and this year’s edition was a head-turning, wallet-emptying extravaganza of pop culture! Featuring cosplayers, merch, and so much more, there was something from every corner of every fandom!
From TikTok celebrities drawing hordes of adoring fans to independent comics shaking up the scene, SGCC 2024 was every geek’s fever dream come to life, so come with me as we wrap up this year’s edition of Comic-Con!
Celebrities and Cosplayers

If you thought TikTok was just a place for dance challenges and dubious food experiments, think again. SGCC 2024 played host to a legion of TikTok stars. Leading the charge for the celebrities and cosplayers was none other than Rurusama, Singapore’s resident cosplay queen and SGCC’s first-ever official ambassador.
When we visited, she was dressed as Marin Kitagawa from My Dress-up Darling and offered paid fan service experiences ranging from a whispered compliment to a full-on kabedon! Other famous personalities included popular online foodie Zermatt Neo and TikTok sensation Satoyu!
It wasn’t just about racking up views, though! These creators brought the community vibe to life IRL. Fans queued for selfies, participated in impromptu TikTok challenges, and even joined Kahoot quizzes hosted by their favourite stars.

But let’s get into the heart and soul of Comic-Con: the cosplayers. They truly lit up SGCC 2024, with representatives across every genre and fanbase imaginable! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the most realistic Batman I’d ever seen walk arm-in-arm with a Paimon cosplayer, complete with magical sparkles!
The cosplay on display also brought the house down, featuring elaborate props, lighting effects, and more creativity than some Hollywood costume departments. One standout? A Black Myth: Wukong cosplay that made me feel that the Monkey King himself was walking around the Sands Expo Convention Centre!
Booths that Make a Difference

While Comic-Con is often about buying merch and dressing up in cosplay – it holds a deeper meaning for some. Enter Difference Engine, a Southeast Asian comic publishing house making a difference by showcasing unique, local storytelling. Forget your cookie-cutter superhero narratives – this is where folklore meets modernity, where Southeast Asia’s rich cultural tapestry comes alive in comic form.
Their standout title this year? Folk by Paolo Chikiamco – a hauntingly beautiful anthology about Southeast Asian creatures living among humans and grappling with identity and community. Think secret karaoke sessions with spirits or a pontianak navigating modern life. It’s a refreshing change from the usual Japanese and Taiwanese domination of the comic scene, and a reminder that Southeast Asia has its own stories to tell.
Another highlight was Tiger Girls, their first webcomic, which takes the superstition about girls born in the Year of the Tiger being bad luck and flips it into a mythological, stereotype-shattering epic. With its final episode set to release in February 2025, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves comics with sharp cultural commentary!
The Food

While we didn’t get a chance to sample much of the food from SGCC 2024 – we were too busy spending money at the merch booths! – we did manage to catch a breather for some quick snacks and dessert!
To start things off light, we bought a cheesy corndog from Kwazy Korndog, Singapore’s first Korean corndog brand! It was a hearty, satisfying, savoury snack, the perfect fuel to recharge your batteries before continuing on your SGCC 2024 journey!

Next, we bought two flavours of ice cream from Tom’s Palette – Salted Caramel Cheesecake and a plain vanilla one – and both were equally delicious! The Salted Caramel Cheesecake had a delightfully decadent sweetness balanced out by the little hint of salt, while the vanilla was classic – simple yet unbeatable!
Mad for Merch

Now, we’re at what most people who attended SGCC 2024 were here for: The merch!
Starting off with a hilarious bang, byjolyn was a spiritual homage to every overworked Gen Z at SGCC. Using clever, witty designs that blend cute characters with everyday cynicism, this booth sold me on its sense of humour as well as its sense of style! A highlight was definitely their prints, one of which featured an exhausted-looking cat with the caption, “If others can do it, then good for them.”

Moving onto the franchises, the sheer range of merchandise on offer was enough to make even the most budget-disciplined fans cave. From intricately detailed figurines of beloved characters to high-quality cosplay props that looked straight out of a blockbuster movie, it was beyond a fan’s wildest dreams!
For the anime enjoyers, there was One Piece and Demon Slayer merch galore, while tabletop enthusiasts found lovingly crafted dice sets and game mats that turned heads. It wasn’t just about the big boys either – indie creators brought their A-game with one-of-a-kind posters, enamel pins, and handcrafted items that gave the experience a personal touch.
The Tabletop Arena

For those who prefer their battles in real life to on-screen, the Tabletop Gaming Arena at SGCC was a paradise! With seemingly unlimited tables, every type of tabletop game made an appearance, from the omnipresent Warhammer 40,000 to One Piece and Star Wars card games!
For those merely looking to upgrade their collections rather than put them to the test, there was a wealth of tabletop vendors peddling their merchandise here! Card and minifigure games aside, I even noticed a section devoted to Beyblade, which I haven’t seen played since I was a kid!
Singapore Comic-Con 2024

SGCC 2024 was a celebration of creativity, cosplay and community! Whether you came for the TikTok stars, the comics, the food, or just to marvel at the incredible cosplays, SGCC 2024 offered something for everyone!
One thing’s for sure, though, Singapore Comic-Con 2024 wasn’t just an event – it was a phenomenon! Here’s to another year of fandom, fun, and figuring out where to store all the merch you bought – and salvage your bank account from your shopping spree.
If you’re as hyped for SGCC 2025 as I am, be sure to check out the official Singapore Comic-Con website for any upcoming details, and to stay up to date with the latest announcements, you can follow them on Instagram too!
