Get Your Game On At The New Elixir Esports In Holland Village!

As someone with almost 100 games on Steam (mostly bought on sale, of course), I’ll say I’m a decently seasoned gamer – in fact, some of my favourite places to go with my friends are gaming cafes! It’s more fun than being cooped up in your room and communicating through Discord or the in-game voice chat, and it gives you a chance to see the people you’re playing with for a change. 

With that in mind, I’m here to talk about Elixir Esports, a brand-new gaming cafe chain in Singapore with a sleek sci-fi aesthetic! We visited their latest outlet at Holland Village to get a first-hand look.

The Hard (and Soft!) -ware  

Before we get to the finer details, I already know the question on every gamer’s mind – how do the PCs stack up? Rest assured, the rigs at Elixir Esports will be able to take on anything you throw at them easily!

At Elixir Esports, each PC is powered by a beefy ASUS RTX 4060Ti graphics card, along with DDR 32GB RAM, ensuring minimal choppiness for even the most processing-heavy games. In the VIP rooms, these specs are upgraded to RTX 4070 Super graphics cards.

Meanwhile, every room has ASUS 27-inch 2K 180Hz monitors, along with 24.8-inch ZOWIE monitors with a lightning-fast 360 Hz refresh rate in specific rooms, providing smooth and responsive gameplay that’s perfect for high-performance gamers.

As a nice touch, all this hardware isn’t in a traditional PC tower taking up space and making noise – in a first for Singapore, it’s all hidden away in a centralised room, so you have more legroom and some peace and quiet. 

As for peripherals, each station comes with headphones, a keyboard and a gaming mouse! For those with specific performance preferences, the mouse has buttons that allow you to change its performance, such as its DPI. Everything is wired, though, which could be an issue if you prefer to have a wireless setup.

Lastly, each PC is preloaded with a huge variety of Steam games, so when you log in using your own account, you’ll be able to start playing immediately! For games that you don’t have on your own Steam account but want to try out at the cafe, you can borrow them for the duration of your session for a small fee. With a blazingly quick 2 Gbps download speed on their in-house WiFi, you won’t have to wait more than a few minutes before jumping into your favourite games!

Aside from Gaming 

Impressive PC specs aren’t all Elixir Esports has to offer – from start to finish, the cafe’s services are more like what you’d expect from a hotel! 

If you get the munchies during a long gaming session, there’s a whole restaurant’s worth of food to order at the reception desk, from main courses like Chilli Oil Noodles and Sichuan Boiled Beef Rice to finger food like popcorn chicken and hash browns.  For something small to recharge, there’s also no shortage of sweets and chocolate available. 

That’s not all – they also have signature drinks! The Elixir Signature Milk Tea and Oat Milk Chocolate Shakes are just some of the beverages we tried, and your regular soft drinks and water are on offer as well.

The amenities don’t stop there – inside the private rooms, which come in single, double or five-person capacities, you can find slippers, sweets, towels and even toothbrushes if you want to indulge in an overnight gaming marathon! Talk about being taken care of!

The chairs follow this trend of luxury, as each one is plush, soft and ergonomic, with the ability to recline a fair distance for maximum comfort! However, something that bugged me was that they don’t have wheels, so if you want to change your chair position, you’ll need to drag it or lift it.

Despite a few personal pet peeves, I still feel that Elixir Esports is a fantastic new place to come and get your game on! Whether you book the VIP rooms for an added upscale touch or you’re looking to spend a few fun hours with your friends in the public gaming area, Elixir Esports will provide a well-rounded, enjoyable experience. With a LAN seating capacity of over 70, 20 VIP rooms for a more private experience and the added bonus of being open 24/7, it’s the perfect place to come at any time of day!
