When it comes to furniture, I think it’s safe to say that IKEA is a household name that consistently delivers quality and turns houses into homes. This fall, IKEA has two new collections catering to contemporary lifestyles that bring a splash of colour and fun!
Building on IKEA’s debut gaming series with Republic of Gamers in 2021 is the new BRÄNNBOLL collection. For all you gamers out there, this collection is designed to seamlessly integrate your set-up with everyday living. On the other hand, the MÄVINN Collection, a partnership with social businesses from Bangladesh, India, and Jordan, showcases the charm of handcrafted goods and artisanal practices.
Let me walk you through some items that will add some pizazz and refresh your living space!
BRÄNNBOLL Collection
First, we have the launch of the BRÄNNBOLL collection following its preview at the Milan Design Week earlier this year. It was only a matter of time before IKEA caught up with the worldwide, ever-growing gaming community—but they’re doing things a bit differently. Breaking away from the conventionally darker, edgier aesthetics associated with gaming furniture, this collection takes inspiration from the energy of street sports and athleisure and offers a refreshing burst of vibrancy and colour.
What’s great about this collection is that it’s designed to blend into your home decor, even if gaming is not on the agenda! So if you’re a non-gamer like me, there are 20 multifunctional items in the BRÄNNBOLL collection that can serve anyone trying to build a more dynamic space.
One cool item in this collection is the BRÄNNBOLL Gaming lounge chair, retailing for S$249! I love a foldable piece of furniture that I can just pull out and tuck away as I please; it makes space so much more flexible! You can also give this chair a permanent place in your space if you fancy a nook to relax and stretch your legs after a long day. I can imagine how nice it’d be for gamers to be able to come home, sink into a seat and reward themselves with a session on their console. MÄVINN Collection
This heartwarming collection is one I’m personally most excited about! There’s a tactile joy that comes with handcrafted items, and as someone who enjoys arts and crafts, I admire anything that requires skilful craftsmanship. What makes this even more special is that the MÄVINN collection celebrates artisanal practices while providing training and jobs to foster independence and professional growth amongst marginalised communities in different countries.
The name “MÄVINN” captures the essence of this mission beautifully, meaning “having the wind at your back”. It’s an expression in a dialect from Småland, Sweden – IKEA’s birthplace. This collection features 17 items, including baskets, rugs, and cushion covers, so there is plenty to choose from, especially for those looking for more eco-friendly decor!
Take the MÄVINN baskets, for example. Like some other items in this collection, they’re made of jute—an eco-friendly fibre known for its silky shine and natural variations. I love the rustic, bohemian charm that comes with such meticulously crafted items, and the durable nature of jute ensures their longevity, so you can put your worries to rest. There are other baskets of the same material in this collection, so check them out before you take your pick!
If you want a more affordable collectable, the MÄVINN Pouch retails for S$7.50! It’s long and slim – great for safely storing things like passports, cards, money, and stationery.
