The anticipation has been palpable, with the entire country counting down to this very moment. The stress was real. The air was thick with suspense. But now, the veil has been lifted on the entertainment line-up for the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2024, and it feels like the final piece of a thrilling puzzle! Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready to see OneRepublic, Kylie Minogue, Lenny Kravitz, Disclosure (DJ), Tones & I, BabyMonster, HONNE, and many more take the stage at this year’s highly-anticipated Grand Prix?
From 20 to 22 September, you better be revved up and buckled in for the most electrifying weekend of the year. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the Singapore Grand Prix 2024! It’s been an insanely unpredictable season thus far! Along with a race that never disappoints, topped with dramatic duels and shell-shocking winners (remember when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz broke the Red Bull winning streak right here in Singapore?), we can expect spectacular performances that will have us dancing and jamming all night, brought to us by world-class performers.
We waited a long time to finally hear all about our headliners and performing acts. After all, the Singapore Grand Prix is home to the night race, and the entertainment acts are a massive part of the weekend (dare I say, almost as massive as the race itself!). With over 100 hours of entertainment across 12 stages, we’re about to be so well-fed that weekend! Now that we’ve got the grand reveal, allow us to bring you through the headliners, some of the performers and what we can expect from their shows!
Headliners
OneRepublic
Kicking off the festivities on Friday, 20 September, is OneRepublic, whose return to Zone 4, the Padang Stage, is highly anticipated after their last performance in 2017 captivated a 50,000-strong crowd. They will take the stage after the second practice session and will certainly set the tone for the weekend. This genre-bending band has sold more than 16 million records worldwide, accrued over 15 billion streams, and racked up six top-ten entries on the UK charts as well as four top-ten singles in the US.
As for the songs we think they’re going to play, we just know there’s no way they won’t perform their greatest hits like Counting Stars, Good Life, and I Ain’t Worried! They will also be bringing their brand new tracks like I Don’t Wanna Wait, and maybe even Sink or Swim and RUNAWAY? Well, they’re a record-breaking act we’ve all grown up with, and it’s going to be a real treat watching them rock out on stage and sing to us their greatest hits that we grew up listening to, along with their latest music that they’ve released after doing some growing of their own.
And we already know how much they love Singapore. Hello? Their latest album, “Artificial Paradise”, features an instrumental track entitled Singapore! Whether it’s a subtle dig at our man-made beauty or an ode to the beautiful haven we’ve created Singapore to be, we just know it will be a jaw-dropping sight, watching them perform against Singapore’s stunning backdrop as day turns into night on Friday, 20 September.
Kylie Minogue
Ah, the Singapore Grand Prix never disappoints! On Saturday, 21 September, the circuit will sparkle as pop icon Kylie Minogue takes over the stage! After performing in front of 50,000 fans at the Singapore Grand Prix 2016, Kylie brings back her magic right where it was unleashed eight years ago, at the Zone 4 Padang Stage, to perform her greatest hits.
Known for her dazzling performances and an illustrious career having sold over 80 million records worldwide, five billion streams and nine UK Number 1 albums, Kylie is ready to wow the crowd once again with her irreplaceable aura and presence. Kylie is the only female artist to score a Number 1 album and Top 10 singles in five consecutive decades in the UK. It’s a real head-scratcher to see how many of her iconic tracks the legend will be able to fit in her setlist!
Come on, her discography boasts songs as iconic as Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Love at First Sight, Spinning Around, Slow, and so many more! Not only that, with the release of her UK Number 1 album, “Tension”, and recent global smash hits, Padam Padam, and collaborations, My Oh My with Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo, and Midnight Ride with Orville Peck and Diplo, the options are endless! The best way to prepare for her royal Kylie-ness? A listening binge!
Lenny Kravitz
On Sunday, 22 September, after the engines have cooled down (and we’ll have our winner of the iconic Singapore Grand Prix), Lenny Kravitz will rev up the atmosphere with his deep-soul rock & roll! This will be his first-ever performance in Singapore, so stand up for him and give him your all!
A multi-talented artist (by that, we mean a musician, writer, producer, actor, author, and designer) and four-time Grammy winner, Lenny is set to showcase his genre-blending musical prowess on the Zone 4 Padang Stage. His latest album, “Blue Electric Light”, is set to be a game-changer, adding an extra layer of excitement to his Singapore debut. His latest work is a sonic journey that’s not just a collection of songs but a testament to Lenny’s enduring creativity and artistic evolution.
With the master of deep-soul rock & roll rocking up in Singapore, how can we not hear some of his greatest hits, including his timeless anthems like It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Fly Away, Again, Believe, and so many more? With 4 Grammy awards to his name, having sold 40 million records worldwide, and being recently selected as a 2023 Hollywood Walk of Fame inductee, rest assured that we will have a legend in our midst on race day!
More Performers
Oh, come on. You thought that was it? Headliners are merely a small piece of the very large picture of the Singapore Grand Prix 2024 entertainment line-up!
Adding to this star-studded line-up is Dean Lewis, whose soulful hit tracks have become our heartbreak anthems as we bawl our eyes out in the comfort of our bedrooms at 3am. With songs like Be Alright and How Do I Say Goodbye, we promise that his heartfelt lyrics and emotive performances will provide a moving contrast to the weekend’s high-energy acts.
Tones And I will also grace the Grand Prix, bringing her unique blend of pop with her sensational, chart-dominating hits that will have you dropping everything to sing along, like Dance Monkey, Fly Away, and Never Seen the Rain! Her performances are known for their infectious energy, much like a thrilling race finish that keeps us on the edge of our seats.
We’ve got ourselves many different genres, but what’s a music festival without some dance-inducing K-pop jams? The Singapore Grand Prix has got you covered! K-pop sensation BABYMONSTER, the breakout group of the year, will showcase their powerful performances and stellar vocals, making their Singapore debut a highly anticipated event. Their viral hit SHEESH is already on everyone’s lips, so all you have to do is join in the celebration!
Speaking of celebration, say hello to the legendary American R&B band that has influenced the music of three generations – Kool & the Gang! With classics like Celebration and Jungle Boogie under their belt, there could never be a dull moment with them tearing up the stage with the songs that defined our childhoods!
British electronic DJ duo HONNE will take over with their infectious and futuristic sound and lyricism, promising a night of good vibes, feel-good dancing, and euphoric jamming. Their debut studio album, “Warm on a Cold Night,” released in 2016, achieved massive popularity and success internationally. Their second album, “Love Me/Love Me Not,” released in 2018, continued to build on their success, going multi-platinum in multiple territories!
Ending Thoughts
With such massive names coming to our shores to electrify the Marina Bay Street Circuit, all that’s left for us to do is book our tickets to make sure we’re there to catch the performances (as well as the racing action, of course!).
This year’s performers were indeed announced much later than usual, but was it worth the wait? With the main headlining acts having been kept under wraps for so long, many people resorted to the guessing game and made their own predictions. Some (self-created, self-spread) rumours we heard were Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, SZA, and even The Weeknd!
While any of these names would have left us shocked to the core, unable to move an inch, the current line-up is not too shabby, too, complete with legends and icons we’ve grown up listening to. Though, it would’ve been great if more of the currently reigning superstars could grace the stages, too. For how long the wait was, we were hoping for Beyoncé herself to come on down and tear up the circuit! Don’t tease us like that ever again, Singapore Grand Prix!
2023 was a year of explosive acts, with Kings of Leon and our dearest Post Malone taking the stage and showing the world how it’s done! While the performances were absolutely phenomenal, we also did a review of the concert crowds there (spoiler alert: shame, shame). Consider this our very own PSA: please be a pleasant crowd, Singapore! Concert etiquette is everything!
As the race weekend approaches, tickets are selling faster than a Red Bull pit stop, with newly released single-day walkabout and grandstand tickets now available. Singapore Grand Prix 2024 promises not just world-class racing but an unparalleled entertainment experience, blending the thrill of the race with the joy of live music. So, gear up and get ready for a weekend that promises to be a full-throttle festival of speed, music, and unforgettable moments!
My dearest Formula 1 fanatics and music maniacs, the most exhilarating weekend of the year is finally coming. Best believe, we’ll see you there!
