The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon returns for another run (pun very much intended) from 29 November to 1 December 2024! Right before the year ends, run it out at Singapore’s marquee running event, which returns with new additions that make the marathon more inclusive for everyone – even serial walkers like me!
Standard Chartered (the Bank, so as not to spark any confusion) has partnered with the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon since 2002, making it one of the longest sports partnerships in Singapore. And for good reason! This partnership connects people from all walks of life through shared values of resilience and determination. But this year, it has become more inclusive to invite more community members to join this incredible event. Let’s check out what’s new at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024 (SCSM 2024)!
The Return of the Ekiden Race
Ah, the fabled race hath returned! SCSM 2024 welcomes back the Ekiden Race, where teams of five runners will take turns completing sections of the marathon course, passing a sash to the next runner at designated transition points—think relay race! This makes the marathon more bite-sized and more accessible while encouraging teamwork and greater inclusivity as it opens its arms wide to more participants. There’s something for everyone, including me!
In fact, Standard Chartered will provide 100 complimentary Ekiden slots on a first-come-first-served basis to corporate teams who commit to raising funds for Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, a global youth economic empowerment initiative supporting young people in our communities to learn, earn and grow. Futuremakers also empower young women in need, enabling them to gain skills and sustainable employment, and support entrepreneurs in building thriving microbusinesses and creating jobs. So, get those corporate teams up and running!
“Run-cation” Promotion for Standard Chartered Singapore cardholders
Wasn’t this what you were waiting to hear – the perks of being a Standard Chartered Singapore cardholder in a marathon brought to life by your very own bank? Well, first of all, you get a 15% discount on registration. Duh! But there’s more.

‘5km and Beyond’ Challenge
The bank also kickstarts the inaugural ‘5km and Beyond’ challenge! Meant for its Singapore-based employees, this challenge aims to inspire its very own to join the race with the rest of Singapore to achieve their personal fitness goals while cementing a nationwide camaraderie. This initiative also complements other employee activations, such as Home Run @ SCSM, where colleagues are invited to run or walk to raise funds for Futuremakers.
More about SCSM 2024
This three-day running fiesta, held from 29 November to 1 December 2024, will kick off with the Kids Dash on Friday, 29 November, followed by the 5km and 10 km runs on Saturday, 30 November. The half-marathon and marathon categories will flag off on Sunday, 1 December, with Ekiden teams running alongside the marathoners.
Like every year, the marathon will enrapture its participants with a scenic route showcasing Singapore’s stunning landmarks. More details on the final route will be shared closer to the race dates, but we know for sure that this running experience will bring you alongside our beloved landmarks, such as Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. Running against one of the world’s most iconic city skylines is an unmatched experience you don’t want to miss.
In this marathon, run alongside famed athletes, fellow fitness enthusiasts, and even people like me who run once a year! Last year, SCSM saw around 44,000 runners, including more than 8,600 international participants – the highest in the marathon’s history!
This year, with these elevated features that set SCSM 2024 apart from its predecessors, it’s your time to grace the event and this remarkable community effort with your presence. Perhaps even set a new record? Nonetheless, registration is open, and this marathon is yours to take on! Maybe this year, we will finally cross this one off our New Year’s Resolutions list!
