As a Liverpool fan, the name El Niño (bestowed onto Spanish striker Fernando Torres) has brought both joy and sadness. Now, it brings a different emotion: discomfort. The El Niño phenomenon has made Singapore a warmer-than-usual environment, and the unpleasantness is obvious. This stark change in climate is a clear indication of the urgent global warming issue we face. The upcoming Earth Day 2024 is not just an occasion, but a crucial platform to champion the environmental movement. What better way to participate than with Earth Day events?
Singapore has a diverse range of Earth Day-centric events, each catering to different interests and ways of contributing to the protection of our great blue planet. Whether you’re into fashion, outdoor activities, or educational workshops, there’s something for everyone. Want to send some love to the Earth? Join us to see the available events you can participate in!
Earth x Fashion at Weave Suites
It may be surprising, but fashion has a significant impact on the environment. Not only does fashion wastage contribute to greenhouse gases, but the toxic dyes used on clothes also pollute our groundwater and soil. Sustainable fashion is on the rise, and you can take part in this movement, too, starting with Earth x Fashion!
Earth x Fashion is not just about spreading awareness of circular fashion; it also provides a platform for personal growth and learning. By partnering with brands like Cloop and Fashion Revolution Singapore, this event offers a diverse lineup of activities that can kickstart your journey into sustainability. So, why not take this opportunity to inspire yourself and others?
Cloop Open Wardrobe is part of the event. It is an honour-system thrift shop that offers 8 curated racks of preloved apparel to visitors to combat fashion overconsumption. All items are pay-as-you-wish (min. S$10/item) or as stated on the price tag, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to good causes.
There’s also a workshop that teaches you to make your own mending patches, encouraging you to resist disposable fashion through repair and reuse. Finally, check out the lineup of film screenings to learn more about fashion and its environmental issues.
